I pre-ordered from Amazon again.
Met store price was an extra $8 for the book and ~$65 more for shipping. Worst thing about Metstore is that damn shipping price. Not paying that much for a slim chance of an autographed copy.

I've had mine on preorder from Amazon for a while. I'd love to support the club but I'm not paying the shipping or waiting for the delivery.

Every time I'm buying, I go through the Metstore online process, right up to the shipping info page, always hoping its no longer a deal breaker. I did see there was 3 options for shipping to Aust, where previously I'm sure there was only one.

Have you guys been following the thread for the shipping fees on the official board? There's some good info from metclubDan there. And I learned that the shipping for a T-shirt has been changed since the new website. Used to be like 30$ extra, now its like 5$.

Yeah I saw that thread. International shipping is where its all up the creek. Guy in NZ was asked to pay over $120 to ship the book.... why even bother listing those prices.

Did you take a look at Amazon?, I think I paid US$41 Nope, I just assumed it would be expensive, but just looked now and it might not be too bad. I'll make an account tonight and check it out properly before ordering - cheers!

So. My copy arrived today (a full 12 days before the listed Sept 13th release date. Huh.).
I've just finished the introduction. It covers a brief bio of the band and their history and the individual members biogs etc. It flits back and forth between narrating the history and detailing the bus crash.
I have to say... holy shit this book is good. No, not good. Amazing. I know, I know... I regularly drink the Metallica Kool-Aid but this really is something special. And I'm only 40 pages into it. It's brilliantly written and it's also just so sad too. Particularly this bit from guitar tech Aiden Mullen:
I'll post some pictures and some other bits that jumped out at me, later.

Yup. That initial introduction is pretty hard going. The way it's written, there a creeping sense of dread because you know what it's building to. Great writing.

I know. I felt two emotions watching that video: how brave Kirk ws to OK that to be shown to the world and how, for all we bleat on about the music and the logo and the image and the tracklistings and all that shit, these 3 guys lost someone they loved. Someone who they cared about. Someone who was, by their own admission, the lynchpin of the band in those early years.
And that's the real loss here - not that we, the fans, we robbed of a musical talent, but these guys lost their friend.
As I said over at MetFor: Oh Kirk. C'mere for a hug.

I actually can't watch that video anymore. I just did it for a second time and it's too hard, seeing that kind of raw pain and emotion.

Loved seeing that, and yeah, definitely feeling for Kirk.

I've always respected and admired Cliff. He seemed like a genuinely sweet guy, and he was such a talented and creative musician. I know it's kind of a cliché thing to ask but I do really sometimes wonder what more he could have given the world had he lived.

It must be even worse for Kirk knowing the circumstances. My heart goes out to the guy.

I loved Robs recollection of having Cliff watching him. Raw emotion alright, but thats a big part of what makes this band special to me.
My book hasn't arrived yet, so please watch the spoilers. Maybe a should stay out this thread until its been read. Not much is going to be more important than that video anyway me thinks

I'm still on the fence about whether to purchase this or not.
I'm trying to cut down on the materialistic spending... And I've been going through the process of getting rid of heaps of crap I don't use anymore like So What magazines.
On the other hand, I'm always happy to buy new books and I'll look at this for years to come.
I'll order it now, thanks for convincing me everyone.
