i'm already two days behind but i'm thinking valverde will be wearing the gold jersey in the not too distant future. i have the sneaky suspicion that he may be more of a contender than is thought (i know quintana is one of the favourites buuuuuuut).

Valverde is really hard to place this year, he haven't really shown much. Contador is already gone, he keeps disappointing year after year

aye, he's a difficult one. thing is, he can only finish in the top 5 so many times before finally cracking it, even in spite of having quintana as a team mate. good thing about this tour is that it *should* come down to those last few days in the mountains so it should be reasonably open for a while yet, big couple of days coming up too.
contador...broken leg in 2014(?), pretty much done by the end of the first stage this year. shame to lose a contender early but eh, we're not want of contenders this year!

I wouldn't mind seeing him challenge Froome for the jersey, with Contador and Nibali out there's basically only Quintana and Valverde left. Tinkoff were all over the place yesterday, Moviestar is... yeah, we'll see about them later on. I expect sky to be strong as always.

oh, i didn't know about Nibali! as i said, i'm a a couple of stages behind (dvr'ing while 'cause it's exam week). is he, like 10 mins down or something or has he left the race? i know Porte had a terrible day on...tuesday? interesting.
aye, Sky seem to be the best prepared of the big teams. i know Thomas is injured but they'll be dangerous for sure.

Nibali and Contador both threw time yesterday :-/
Contador + 6,38 Nibabli + 14,06

ah. i suspect that nibali in particular is not making that time up "/

He will for sure not, and I doubt that Contador will either. He is already slipping so I can't see him recovering when they hit the bigger mountains.

So glad this thread appeared. I was wary to start one myself.
I'm caught up to date apart form today (Stage 6) although I do know who won. I think this will be Nairo's year to be honest. I know we're almost a week in, I also wouldn't put it past Contador or Nibali making up some of that time. Or at least Contador.

Yeah. I had seen things like this happen before (Giro a few years ago, I think one of the Ardennes classics too) but at the Tour is amateur.
Good to hear that Adam Yates was given time because of this and now gets the White Jersey.

And what a wet fart yesterday, can't figure out if quintana didn't have the power to attack or if he is saving himself for the third week.

Great result for Dumoulin but it wasn't he most exciting I found.
As for Quintana, I think he was saving himself. Yeah it was one mountain top finish that in theory he could have gained time and maybe opened a gap but he's in a great spot now. Much better than last year.
Shame about Contador.

He is much better placed this time around yeah, but I thought he missed a great opportunity. Froome was attacked by serveral others, he should have tried a counter attack.

I can totally see that. And it would have been interesting had he did. But, I gotta think that he didn't because he knows he's fine if he hugs the wheel of the leader now. Would have made for a more interesting stage had he done that though.
Looking forward to having it back tomorrow.
Do either of you guys listen to the Telegraph Cycling Podcast?

I really like it. They do analyses of each stage every day plus little one off specials here and there. Like one dealt with French riders who ride on non French teams; another on the re-birth of German cycling; an upcoming one will be on Mt Ventoux.
It's definitely worth checking out.

i'm not sure if we have rules re posting stage winners as it happens so: this stage had cavendish's name written all over it, the winds and a mechanical issue just fucked his day. it's usually a weird stage when the green and yellow jersey cross the line 1st and 2nd in a sprint finish. looks like the summer of sagan rolls on; cannot see him losing the green jersey now. Do either of you guys listen to the Telegraph Cycling Podcast? i haven't yet, man, but i've seen you post enthusiastically about it so i'll give it a try sometime soon, how often does it come out? i listen to rouleur's podcast, which is great, but that's frustratingly short (sometimes only 20 minutes) and only released once a month. i need something quite regular!

Yeah the Rouleur podcast is nice. I got a subscription for the magazine (which is so awesome) so i always try and savour the podcast, even though it's so short. I like to have read at least half the monthly issue before finishing the podcast. The Cycling Podcast is weekly I believe, but during the Grand Tours they have one a day, and during le Tour, they're posing even more with other little segments Each Stage summary is anywhere form 35 - 50 min and the little other segments are around 20 minutes. Their site has everything
