Should've seen Kreator last night, but a wall collapsed at my local train station causing widespread cancellations, so couldn't get there :'( That sucks, I just got back from Kreator/Sepultura, it was an awesome show.

Wouldn't expect anything less from those two. Even with Kreator's mostly stale/predictable setlist choices (although "Total Death" and "Under the Guillotine" = ) I'm sure they would have killed.

this weekend I don't recognize any bands playing, I guess I'm too old and out of the loop. Venom Inc.? Anything to do with Venom?

Meyhems on there, didn't see that, I'm tired. OK, so I know one band on there, and the Venom thing. Have fun.

Was thinking why does everything finish at 5pm, but read it upside down. Each day finishes up early hours.

Seeing Testament/Sepultura/Prong on saturday, that'll be my first big show of the year. Also have tix to see Opeth/Gojira/Devin Townsend and Diamond Head next month, U2 and Megadeth/Meshuggah/Tesseract in june, Avenged Sevenfold/Volbeat and Metallica/Avenged Sevenfold/Volbeat in july, one lineup of Yes in august, and Epica/Lacuna Coil/Insomnium and a different lineup of Yes in september.
Animals As Leaders are playing in my city next month and Slayer/Lamb of God are going to be playing about and hour and a half from me in july so i'm also considering those, but I don't know if i'll be able to afford em with all these other shows i'm going to. Alice Cooper/Deep Purple are playing in my city later this year as well, but it's only a day or two after I see Yes so I probably won't be able to swing leaving work early twice in one week.

Epica/Lacuna Coil/Insomnium [...] in september. I'm thinking about seeing this too in Joliet, IL. Where are you seeing them?

I'm mainly going for Insomnium, but I enjoy Epica enough to stick around for their set. I've been dying to see Insomnium for a while so i'm a bit bummed they're finally coming relatively close to me as an opening act, but i'll take what I can get.

Going to see The Dillinger Escape Plan tonight.
Kinda weird to think this gig would have never happened if their tour bus didn't crash a couple of months ago, they weren't scheduled to play Ireland on their original European tour.

Engel You not going to see Marilyn Manson? Or have I got you mixed up with someone else who is a fan?

Must have me mixed up with someone else I think. I quite liked his stuff back in the day but was not a huge fan. Saw him play live with Rammstein few years back at the big German music awards - Echo - and eek.. it was not good. However, I am sure he will put on a show.
You going?

I am yeah. Saw him a few years ago and he was quite good, not great but thankfully not the trainwreck I'd seen on a few vids beforehand. He was one of the first artists I ever really got in to, so I think I'm partly clinging to the hope that he'll recapture the spirit of his glory days.

Last night, I saw Rammstein for the first time ever. I've been a fan since 1999, so this was long overdue. The setlist was the standard one for this tour, but it was so very awesome. The opening number Ramm4 works perfectly as a concert opener, although I'm not sure how it would fare on an album. After that, it was basically a superb song after another. High points for me included Halleluja, Zerstören, Mein Herz Brennt and Sonne. The lighting and the pyrotechnics were beyond fantastic. I've never seen such a production at a concert. In addition, I don't think I've ever been at a gig where the band sounded as good as Rammstein did.
All in all, 6/5, would Ramm again!

I am in Helsinki for a day this summer - where would you recommend is a must see/visit for a tourist?

Post by jokk1 on Jun 11, 2017 17:06:00 GMT
I'm pretty much a tourist here as well :D
Helsinki Cathedral (at Senate Square), the Esplanade Park and the Market Square are all in close proximity to each other and well worth a visit. I love the Kaivopuisto Park, it's by the sea about 1,5 km from the Market Square.
Suomenlinna Sea Fortress is a popular attraction, ferries run every 20 minutes from the market square.
I would also recommend walking to Töölönlahti bay, you'll see the parliament building on the way there and the Finlandia Hall there.
