Alright bros, I got some Q's that hopefully you can give me some A's for. I've been playing guitar for over a decade, but I've always been a rhythm player. Never have I attempted any lead work in the past, until now. I wanted to start my attempts by learning the Unforgiven solo. I'm having a lot of difficulty with bending the strings up high at the 20th fret, way too much tension on them. I normally play 10-52s but I'm wondering if switching the tops to 8s or 9s will make the bends easier. It's actually pretty bad I've developed blisters which I thought was weird because I do have callouses after playing for so many years, but idk man. Lead guys, any help?

10 to 52 are going to annihilate your fingers. I use 9 to 42

Figured as much. Tried to play through the blisters I have but that was a stupid idea. Finger slipped off one of the strings and it got pinched between the string and fretboard, not a fun time. I will consider switching to 9s, but I don't want to lose the chunkiness of the 52s. I suppose taking the tops from a set of 9s and the bottoms from the 10-52s won't be an issue, will it? I don't want something to go fucky with the neck or anything.
