Still can't believe it. This one has hit me pretty hard, I have spent countless hours playing along to his drum tracks.
To think we were so close to a reunion and now that will never happen. Very sad.

Apparently the bands previous drummer had a heart attack at the same venue.
Stay away from that place.

All the badass people have to die first, what gives? Poor dude's heart just failed mid-way through the third song. Apparently Dave is creating a benefit concert and is inviting any Megadeth alumni to join. Too bad the best two drummers (IMO) they had are dead. Wonder who would show up to that. RIP, poor guy.

Wow, that's crazy. It feels like yesterday that I was watching those vids of him playing old Megadeth songs, he seemed just fine. Always liked him, amazing drummer, seemed like a good guy too.
RIP

I'm not really an expert on drumming, how good was he? Better than Lombardo?

It's a matter of taste. I liked him better than Lombardo but I also enjoyed his music much more

Nick Menza makes Lombardo sound like a dude who's over compensating. Like a middle aged man with a Lamborghini.

I like Lombardo a lot and respect his huge influence on extreme drumming, but he is a bit of a one trick pony. Lots of double bass, skank/punk beats and similar sounding fills. Nick was a lot more tasteful I think, he would let loose but knew when to pull back and let the rest of the band shine. He was super creative and energetic. His drumming on RiP and Countdown is some of my favourite metal drumming personally and every single song on those two records are extremely fun to play.

Can 2016 stop killing off people FFS.
And I'd take a Menza drum track over Lombardo anyday.

Dave vs. Nick, apples vs. oranges. Who cares.
Never liked Megadeth but he's a damn good drummer. RIP. This year sucks.

No disrespect to Menza but he was never really mentioned in great drummer discussions.

No disrespect to Menza but he was never really mentioned in great drummer discussions. Nick Menza is my favorite metal drummer of all time, and he has been for years. His feel and groove made 90s Megadeth what it is today, and its a main reason why their songs just don't work the same way today. And for you to shit talk this guy who's passed away 20 years before his time a week after his death is pitiful to say the least.

Chill your tits, he played on my favourite Megadeth albums (RIP/CTE/YOUTH/CW). All i'm saying is i can't recall people saying he was an outstanding drummer until after he died, that's all.

That is absolute fucking nonsense. I've had countless discussions just on these boards over the fact he was Megadeth's best drummer and one of the great drummers of metal.
