In retrospect i think both SKOM and TTN were a waste of time (ditto for Orion and Lulu). It took Metallica away from the essence of the band.

Thanks for posting, Lightning. I hadn't seen this either. TTN's visuals, with it's 2.35:1 ratio, is easily the best concert footage I have ever seen. Had actually forgotten how cool it looks.
And now I have to re-read Berlinger's book too.

That was cool. It has always been one of my favorite scenes when Lars calls James a dick and Kirk facepalms. So funny and sums up the dynamic of the band in one scene.

You do know that Metallica had nothing to do with SKOM, right? They bought the rights but had nothing to do with the actual making or editing of the film. That was Berlinger and Sinofsky. Also the essence of the band is whatever the members of the band want it to be. Not what some spanner on a message board thinks it should be.

The essence of the band now is to cash in on their Remastered Boxsets...

Back in the day, there were many female groupies who felt the essence of the band splatter on their face.

I'm rewatching Some Kind of Monster and can't help but be reminded how even before he quit I felt like Jason was a massive douche.

Man Echobrain, keeping the metal alive through those years was Jason Newsted!

Yeah, early and mid 90s Jason was cool but he did seem to turn from a goofy dorky kind of cool guy into a guy with an inflated ego towards the end. Even more so after he left. And for all his talk, his projects where all so weak and flat out garbage. When he quit, I was really fearful for the future of Metallica, but thank god he did. Rob has grown on me over the years and the guy seems really down to earth and humble, and his skills destroy Jason's.

Just finished SKOM and going into the short This Monster Lives. That really I'd a great film to watch. It's the first time I viewed it since going through therapy myself, it gave me a whole new perspective on the thing.

I also agree that he was and yet still somehow miss him. Maybe it's his irreplaceable "motherfucker die."

I also agree that he was and yet still somehow miss him. Maybe it's his irreplaceable "motherfucker die." Yeah, I miss that kind of stuff too. That was MY Metallica, the Metallica I grew up on. On that note, Rob recording backup vocals on the new record... Very interesting news, I hope its cool, I just get the willies thinking back to those Rammons covers, even though Rob's not on those. Rob's back up's live have gotten way better, I hope its really cool.

I hope it's just some shouting backups like "BURN, DIE, ASSHAT" or whatever, and not real singing. I can't really see that happening. I will surely sound different live if so
