If you liked Dystopia then get off my lawn and go listen to some of their better albums, ya whippersnapper.

Dave's songwriting ability has gone down the pan, i think he should hang it up. Dystopia sounds like a mish mash of bad ideas.

I didn't find Repentless to be too bad. I think Dystopia was a step above it, but just a step.

I didn't find Repentless to be too bad. I think Dystopia was a step above it, but just a step. Agreed, and that step is the melodic factor in my opinion. Both bands recent outputs are good, nothing new or groundbreaking, but safe for them. Though I feel on Dystopia, Dave was trying to up it a notch and had something to prove. He tried. I like the cartoon videos though, there's that. Slayer just kind of went in and did the same old thing with the same old theme and sound.

One question: I keep reading reviews of Dystopia and the songs Look Who's Talking and Last Dying Wish weren't on the tracklist on those websites. I bought the album on iTunes, are those two tracks exclusive? Do they even exist? Am I just imagining them? If so, then go my brain! I may be insane but I can write good metal songs without even trying!

No way Dystopia is better than Repentless.

Interesting. Glad I bought it on iTunes and not the CD. I almost never say that. Edit: Apparently they're only on iTunes and Best Buy editions as bonus tracks and were never actually going to be on the album. Pretty good songs though. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dystopia_(Megadeth_album)

Yeah those two songs are bonus tracks, but they're in the middle of the album. I never really understood why bands do that, I just moved them to the end of the album in my library. That being said, the chorus of Look Who's Talking is bad ass. After sitting on this album for a couple of months, I think I'll go and say Me Hate You is actually my favorite song. It harkens back to Youthanasia a bit, but with a more Endgame-y, modern twist. And then I think about half the album is really good music. Like every Megadeth album after TSHF besides Endgame, it could be a lot better with a different track list, and trading some bonus tracks for album cuts.

I don't understand why they're in the middle of the album either. By now I'm used to them being in that spot though, so I'd expect to hear the spoken word intro of Last Dying Wish after The Emperor and not the whammy effects of Foreign Policy. Look Who's Talking has a really catchy chorus and the intro guitar effect is really cool. That said, I can see why they didn't put it on the album (the "Look at you! LOOK WHO'S TALKING! ending is kind of stupid and pads out the song for too long that it needed to be). I'm kind of used to the album being 13 tracks, but Last Dying Wish should've for sure replaced Lying In State. Dunno about Look Who's Talking. It could maybe replace The Emperor, but I'm not sure. I still need to here Me Hate You and Melt The Ice Away before I can hear the next album by them, because I'm in the Dystopia "phase".

I listed to Risk second. You'd think I'd do that last...but nope. I was at a record store and this was the cheapest one, so I bought it. And I liked it. I thought the album was good. It was definitely miles different than Dystopia, but I liked it.
Insomnia was definitely overproduced with what seemed like 18 different effects happening over the song, but the song itself was hard-hitting and catchy. Prince of Darkness was pretty heavy and I enjoyed it. That said, it felt like it could try a bit harder to get where it wanted to go, because it wasn't quite heavy enough when it was trying to be the heavy song. Crush Em was cool, it had a nice funky riff and a catchy chorus. Breadline and I'll Be There were both pretty cheesy and poppy to appeal to me, really the only ones I wasn't into on the album.
The Doctor Is Calling sounded like a post-apocalyptic Radiohead metal song. And I definitely enjoyed it. Wanderlust was also really cool, having a kind of creepy atmosphere in the beginning, but getting more rocking towards the end. Ecstasy was kind of weird, and I'm still not too sure how I feel about it. Seven was my second favorite song on the album. It wasn't that heavy, but it was heavier, and I'm not sure exactly what it was about it, but it just clicked with me very well. Time was really cool, both parts, especially Time: The End, which is probably my second favorite song on the album. I remember thinking this was the only good one when I previewed the album on iTunes when I was considering which album by them I should buy first....hah. This is a great album, regardless of the lack of thrash. I still do prefer Dystopia by a tiny bit though.

you people are way to harsh, it's a great album and the best since countdown Ah yes, the good ol' "It's a great album, you guys are just being meanies!" Seriously, that shit gets old. People have opinions. Get over it. If you think it's great, cool, don't let anyone else tell you that you can't enjoy it. But that doesn't mean other people are being "to [sic] harsh" when they disagree with you.

I can't help but be amazed that She-Wolf is on virtually every setlist nowadays. I mean, it's an ok song, but a live staple? Not so sure about that. They could play something off of Youthanasia instead!

That song is the highlight of Rude Awakening.... well.... if you cut down the drum solo.
