CTE and Youthanasia were the two first Megadeth albums I listened to. Next was the great Peace Sells, and Cryptic Writings, which isn't half bad, either. Those four are probably their most accessible albums.

No offence but you guys are terrible at recommending albums. Youthanasia, Cryptic Writings and Dystopia ? That's basically recommending the Load's and Death Magnetic to someone trying to get into Metallica.

I know but when someone asks you for band recommendations you should recommend what best represents them, he asked about Megadeth and not one person said Rust In Peace.

Because, for me, CTE has a blend of RIP as well as Youthanasia. Plus, you think RIP best represents them. So it's your subjective taste. I think RIP was representative of Megadeth in the 80s but not in 2016. CTE-CW (note I mention Rude Awakenings too to cover the best pre-CTE material) is, IMO, representative of what Megadeth is.

I would never recommend Rest In Peace to a newbie, as I don't really think it's that great of an album. There's some good songs, but all in all, it's really overrated. Megadeth has 6-7 better albums than RIP. And in terms of accessibility, there definitely are better options.

I love Megadeth but I don't even think they have 6 or 7 albums I would qualify as 'great' never mind greater than RIP.
Great albums = Peace Sells, RIP, CTE. Good albums = KIMB, SFSGSW, Youthanasia, TSHF.
And the rest range from meh to downright bad.

The Dystopia World Tour: featuring exactly one song from Dystopia. Brilliant. Now two.

Yeah, it was the album before. A Matter of Life and Death. I just think that if you're going to tour an album you should play more than one or two songs from that album. Dave can do what he wants, though; I know he will no matter what.

If a band knows their album is good they'll base their setlist around it when touring. Shows what MegaDave thinks of his new material.

I don't think that's true, I think Dave knows this is a good album and it's well recieved by the fans. They have never played a lot of songs off the newest album, they always play the hits and one or two songs this was from last show from setlist FM and now there was a tweet that they are going to mix in Dystopia too. The Threat Is Real Play Video Hangar 18 Play Video Kingmaker Play Video Wake Up Dead Play Video In My Darkest Hour Play Video Sweating Bullets Play Video She-Wolf Play Video Dawn Patrol Play Video Poison Was the Cure Play Video Skin o' My Teeth Play Video Trust Play Video Fatal Illusion Play Video A Tout Le Monde Play Video Symphony of Destruction Play Video Peace Sells Play Video Encore: Holy Wars... The Punishment Due

I don't think so, the last time they really based a setlist around an album was touring The System Has Failed where the setlist always had 6 or 7 songs from the album on it, that was the first and last album since Countdown that they really 'toured', even Youthanasia they only really played the singles. But they don't even play anything from System nowadays either so it doesn't really matter. Pretty much every setlist nowadays is half of RIP, 2 or 3 from Countdown, Wake Up Dead and Peace Sells from PS, A Tout Le Monde, In My Darkest Hour, (and for some reason) Trust and She-Wolf. Oh and whatever the single is from the latest album.

How does a band even know if your fans like your new shit ? Cd sales aren't really telling anything

Reviews are not made by fans, and I doubt they read comments on social media, other than maybe a few. How would Dave know if the fans liked Dystopia before playing the songs live ?

I bet dave reads his facebook and twitter......... bet he reads it all a lot yeah, that's a pretty safe bet :P I haven't gone back to Dystopia either..my last impression was that I would skip 3 or 4 songs, like with Endgame.

I will never understand why some bands don't explore their own catalogue more. Especially Megadeth...same stuff for years but so many great songs to choose from.
As for Dystopia, I think it's not bad but 4 weeks after release I'm already kind of tired of it...not a good sign.

I listened to Dystopia first. I know that's not a really good starting album, but I really liked it. Can't really say much more than that.
