Joey felt flat and looked like shit one day, Dave gave him a collared shirt and a leather belt, and because of that Joey found his mojo and Anthrax became popular part of the Big 4 and are now still here and popular in 2021. Thanks Dave. So that's at least 3 bands Dave Mustaine has taken credit for. Also great to see him standing behind his best friend of 40 years during this latest scandal. There's either much more to it than we know about, or at worst Dave E cheated on his missus. This coming from an 80s metal band who lived life to absolute and well documented excess back in the day. Dave M is throwing Dave E under the bus just to minimize the negative impact on merch sales and $$$ - but again, giving benefit of the doubt, maybe there's much more to it than we know about. |

I think there is, he sued Mustaine back in 2002 and ever since then I think they've been in a shaky relationship. Him coming back in 2010 was probably for the Big 4 thing and after that he probably agreed to stay on as just an employee. They also unfollowed each other in 2017 on social media, so I think at this point it was just for the sake of the image and ego for Dave M to keep him in the band until now. I don't think they've been friends for awhile, which is weird considering it was Dave E who basically gave Mustaine a place to stay after he got shitcanned.
If what that woman who came out and said that what she did with him was mutual and consesnual and wasn't meant to be leaked like that was true and she wasn't underage or some shit, then what Mustaine did was merely covering his ass and protecting his brand. It always will be MegaDave.

DE didn't commit a crime, but, it was 100% poor form on his part, and dumb. Irresponsible. He deserved to get canned. Famous and well into your 50s, and showing your dinger to a barely legal chick, ON VIDEO, more than young enough to be your daughter (even granddaughter)
Forget Megadeth. If this was a Metallica/Rob Trujillo situation, they'd can him too. I think any band would. Yes, DM is a douche, but not here. This would be the case I think with many if not all businesses in a spotlight, with famous public figures representing it. Let's put it like this. Would be different if DE was a young man. He ain't. If the guy was the same age, it would be like 'well, he's a young man, blah blah.' But, DE's an old married family man, and a pastor (heh). Looks bad. Creepin' old man is a bad look. Shit, I'm 39 and still get really young, adult women hitting on me behind counters, and even I'm starting to feel weird about it, because I remember my sister, at 19, was dating a 39 year old, and that was one awkward Thanksgiving, and was last time we saw him. DE is 56 ffs.
Imagine if this was about James Hetfield. C'mon, I think we'd all be pretty disappointed in the guy. Don't want to imagine people like this at that age, showing their dicks to young ladies that barely got out of high school. I'm amazed at the amount of people I'm seeing online that somehow don't agree with everything I just said. Just shows a huge bias when it comes to fandom. I mean yeah it's poor form completely agree. Inappropriate behavior no doubt. I'm hardly much of a MegaDeth fan and couldn't tell you a single thing about Dave E's personal life, so I'm not defending him or the behavior in any way.
But this is essentially "heavy metal bass player behaves inappropriate with woman". Something that was expected if not celebrated behaviour back in the day for all big bands. From what we know she was a consenting adult, so this isn't something that was done to her. She isn't a victim. It's just a rockstar being a sleezy creep with a consenting woman.
I'm sure it's disappointing for Dave E / MegaDeth fans, but the outrage is a bit...forced, hypocritical. It'd be like James firing Lars from Metallica if he went out on a coke binge with Axl Rose in 2021. Yeah we expect more mature behaviour from them now they're all older with families and the like, but still rockstars are going to do shitty rockstar things. It's not like MegaDeth are some Christian morally value preaching band and this incident goes against all their values, they were all doing drugs and singing about black magic and shit.
Edit: I guess what I'm saying is that I already have low standards for these guys based on their histories, so this behaviour isn't surprising to me and I don't get why it is for so many others.

Fair assessment Sig and hard to argue. The previous hiccups in their relationship would have not helped Dave E here. I can see why a lot of people would expect Mustaine to have his band members back but if this happened to me personally I'm sure I would also struggle to get past what he actually did - it is gross and morally does not set well with me.
Also....Why do people insist on making a record of everything they do? So stupid. |

You're right though, a lot of MegaDave fans are pretty opposed to him being canned. The thing that baffles me with any of this type of stuff is even if you're half as famous as say someone like Tom Cruise or Beyonce, why the fuck would you record yourself in a compromising position knowing damn well the device in your hand is able to be hacked into and leaked somewhere? I'm sure at this point in time, there are many people who actively try to hack the cloud on smartphones of famous people just for the sole purpose of exposing them (no pun intended). I know in this case it was the chick, but same idea.
The super awkward part about all of this is if concerts become more and more frequent in the next year and a half, I don't think Dave E. is going to be seen around those Metal Allegiance shows or those get-togethers that they do.

That however isn't comparable to Megadeth, because DM is Megadeth, he has always held all the cards. DE didn't hold anything close to equal power in the band compared to DM. Especially after he left and came back, he was a 'salaried member.' Yeah, it's pretty gross for a guy pushing 60 to marry a 19 year old, doesn't matter that 'it's legal.' Would be a bad look for the band. |

Granted, I'm not in my 50s. And even for me, it's starting to get weird. Let's put it like this, I think some young chicks make older guys feel 'young again,' where as others, it just reminds us we aren't. When I was late 20s, keep in mind I'm a look young for my age kind of guy (it's why I get this attention) a chick that was 18 was hitting on me at work and had been for a while. There was a U2 song playing on the radio, and I told her when that song came out, (1987) and I said 'yup, I was 5 when this came out.' You should have seen the wheels turning in her head, and her smile turn into a look of horror and disgust at me. She turned and walked away. I was glad that she was quitting the next day, that's why I went ahead and told her (worked with her for a few months) Point is, I know the feeling that happens when they find out how old you are. It's embarrassing. Wasn't the only time it happened. Don't think for a second though, that I'm acting like I don't see the beauty in younger women, it's not like my dick forgot. I just give less of a shit these days. |
