I'm surprised that we don't have a prog topic here.
I'll start with this song. It's more of a fusion song but it is interesting.

I've kind of fallen away from prog at the moment. I'll occasionally stick on some Genesis but I think I'm a bit worn out on the genre.
Although I'm hoping that this thread will rekindle my interest. I also need to start listening to Morrow again.

news on Pain of Salvation!
Pain of Salvation to release “Remedy Lane Re:visited (Re:mixed & Re:lived)”! New studio album update and first details revealed! Swedish progressive rock/metal innovators Pain of Salvation have announced a very special reissue version of their classic 2002 album “Remedy Lane” entitled “Remedy Lane Re:visited (Re:mixed & Re:lived)” for July 1st, 2016 via InsideOutMusic.
With this release, Pain of Salvation re-visit their ground-breaking and genre-bending “Remedy Lane” album by teaming up with old companion and mixing engineer wizard Jens Bogren at Fascination Street Studios (Opeth, Symphony X, Devin Townsend, Haken, etc.) for a new sonic take on the original recordings as well as the intense full-album live performance from ProgPower USA Festival from 2014. Both these “Remedy Lane” recordings will be made available either together as 2CD Digipak format dubbed “Remedy Lane Re:visited (Re:mixed & Re:lived)” with a total playing time of 142 minutes or individually as Gatefold 2LP (+ Its corresponding album as bonus CD) or Digital Download versions, respectively called “Remedy Lane Re:mixed” (Playing time: 68 min.) and “Remedy Lane Re:lived” (Playing time: 74 min). The releases will come with revised artwork, expanded booklet design and extensive liner-notes by Daniel Gildenlöw.
Pain of Salvation’s Daniel Gildenlöw commented as follows about the re-mix project: “Jens Bogren, aka Fascination Street Studios, approached us a few years after the release of “Remedy Lane“, saying he was a fan of the band and kindly offered his services. He was later involved in “BE” and “Scarsick“, but always in the periphery, since we were taking new directions in our sound and production by then. His true strengths lay in that impressive wall-of-sound type production that we had been aiming for with “The Perfect Element“ and “Remedy Lane“, and I always wondered how those albums would have sounded in the care of his skillful hands. Maybe it was time to find out?“
More details about pre-order start for this release (and its various vinyl options) will be available in the coming weeks. In the meantime, we can also bring you the great news that Pain of Salvation are currently working on a new studio album release together with acclaimed producer Daniel Bergstrand (In Flames, Meshuggah, Strapping Young Lad, etc.) at Dug-Out Productions in Sweden. The album will be entitled “In The Passing Light Of Day” and is expected to be released later in the year via longtime label-partner InsideOutMusic.
Daniel Gildenlöw checked in with the following status report: “For those who don’t already know, we are currently deep into recording the new Pain of Salvation album “In the Passing Light of Day” with brilliant producer Daniel Bergstrand. This cooperation feels like a match made in heaven (or rather some other cool place that I actually believe in), and he was as thrilled to be working with us as we with him. The album will see us go back to our heavy roots again, with a vengeance, and we all feel that we are writing a super strong new chapter in the history of the band. Just wait and you’ll see. Damn, we just want everyone to hear this stuff already! :)”

and new Fates Warning: U.S. Progressive Metal pioneers Fates Warning have announced a worldwide release date of July 1st, 2016 for their much anticipated 12th studio album 'Theories Of Flight', via InsideOutMusic. FATES WARNING guitarist and main composer Jim Matheos comments about the title and the artwork for the “Theories Of Flight” album as follows: “The working title for the album was “The Ghosts Of Home”’ and the song with that name was first called “Home Again”. When I started searching for artwork I came across the piece that’s now the cover and it was called “Theories Of Flight”. In fact, the title you see on the cover is part of the original art, not something we added. There’s a loose theme running through a lot of the lyrics, and this developed organically and separately, where Ray and I are often writing about various uprooting, escapes….flights. So I was immediately drawn to that phrase as being a better description of what some of the songs are about.”

The new Frost* album is a great. A blend of the neo-prog of Milliontown and the electronica of EIMA. New Haken album is awesome. That is all. Need to add that to my phone!

You really should, the whole album is what Dream Theater's new album should've been.

So, that Frost* album. Just submitted my review. All 1012 words of it. I fucking love this album. You really should, the whole album is what Dream Theater's new album should've been. As a fan of musical theatre, I must say, the DT? Bleurgh..... I'm not a Portnoy fanboy but they should have taken that break he wanted and come back with something more interesting than what they've released so far without him.

I liked their first album with Mangini a lot and the Astonishing is a pretty beautiful piece of work. I'm not a fan of the self titled.

Ayreon's The Theater Equation, the live album/Blu-Ray of a performance of The Human Equation, has been released. Seems interesting.

I work at a department store in the entertainment & electronics department. We can play choose the in-store music, and usually we just pick up albums we have on sale and play those. A few days ago, I was playing Motörhead's new live album "Clean Your Clock", when this middle aged lady came to the counter and said: "Could you change the music? This is a bit too proggy for my taste."
I had nothing to say.

Sounds to me like she straight-up doesn't understand what prog is.

Sounds to me like she straight-up doesn't understand what prog is. Yeah, that was most definitely the thing. I think he meant "too heavy" or "too loud", as the next album I put in was "Matka mielen ytimeen" by the Finnish proggy jam-jazz band Saimaa, and she seemed to be happy with it.

Sounded way heavier than their previous record.

So Neal Morse was having a big sale on his site recently and I am now in possession of the 'So Many Roads' triple CD, Transatlantic 'Live In Europe' and the 'Making of Snow' Spocks Beard DVD.

I hope it will be better and a little bit different. I think they have proved that they are a qualty neoprog rock band with We're here..., Weather Systems, and the last album. It would make sense to release something more guitar driven with beautiful solos and all. Whatever they do, they do it great, though... Brilliant band and highly underappreciated.
