That problem could've easily have been solved by them simply not releasing S&R.

That problem could've easily have been solved by them simply not releasing S&R. Or Atlas Rise. Or a different solo.

Or by not letting Lars produce the solos and get a proper producer in who will kick Kirk's arse to do something better.
Listening to an interview with Mike Gillies (engineer/tuning room guy/LiveMet guy) and he said something to the effect of that Kirk plays a solo but if you ask him to play it again, the same way, he can't do it-
What the actual fuck?
Kirk needs to be produced far more rigidly than he has been in 20 years. His best solos? The ones where that were either planned and/or written in advance (first 4 albums) or when he was hand-held and pushed into them (TBA, specifically Unforgiven).

Some of the half arsed attempts I've seen when he plays live are really shocking. People pay money, a LOT of money, to see a show and Kirk seemed to think it was OK to "do it on the night" rather than fucking practice. Disrespectful. Though he's pulled off some great playing on the 2019 tour, in fact they all did.

That's pretty fucking cool. It's funny to see people miss the point and comment "surely you mean 1987?"

James was always leagues ahead of Kirk, but this is a great live performance. watched it many times

Oh yeah no disagreements there. Kirk and James will always have fantastic chemistry, but James playing more of the leads like he does there definitely helps their tightness.

I followed the link and it mentioned Miley Cyrus and I found this on youtube
myself, I'm not a fan of her voice or the cover. if only SIA covered NEM, now that I think I would like.

James' solos are on another level honestly. I really like the one he did for Just a Bullet Away. Rather than just spamming a bunch of fast notes it actually sounds meticulously crafted.

My wife has been watching the show Supernatural, and for the intro to one episode, they had a recap montage of all this demon slaying shit going on while Nothing Else Matters was playing. It was pretty epic LOL.

I just 'wanna' say that it annoys me that Lars always hashtags his social media posts with #wanna
It's often the single hashtag he gives.
Any know the purpose of this?

lol, ffs I know what wanna means. I'm asking why does he hashtag #wanna in every post? (often the only tag) It doesn't make any sense.

I have to admit as a straight 39 year old man, Lars just gets cuter. He went back to being a boy with the shades and beanie. http://instagr.am/p/COoIi4Qn3te

Lars posts there, maybe I should join? edit: I've just been looking at his instagram and indeed he does post #wanna in all his posts... what does it mean? I wanna what? I wanna tour again? I wanna release new music by my band? #wanna

I would like the next album to be in the HTSD direction but maybe a bit more groove like the LOAD & ReLoad albums. more from Rob’s bass would be good, more bass solos or something that moves the song along. anything with more groove in the metal and I’ll be happy I can't wait for new MetallicA music!

It also makes me sad to remember the decent solo he wrote for LOS 2014 until they completely neutered it in the studio, assuming that Lars told him to "just improv". Nothing extraordinary, but contains some of this catchiest licks and phrasing in years. I remember the first LOS clip posted on the internet was a 15 second clip on Instagram of the melodic section that transposes the chords and everyone thought it was the coolest shit. Now the studio version was just a giant wah/whammy note for 10 seconds straight.

We listened to Mets coverf of Brothers in Arms last night. Kirk really stepped up for that cover.
