NEM is a great song, especially live. One is piss-break time. That song has become an absolute snoozefest live. You really don't like that song live I gotta say even though I don't like it that much live anymore either, it's always a spectacle when you are there, so I don't mind it. I still disagree. It used to be a spectacle, sure. The song used to be: - 5 minutes of explosions - mellow atmospheric intro - brutal second half, with machine gun precision, a blistering solo and awesome pyro Now the song is: - 2 mins of lights and lasers - Kirk playing all the intro solos out of time and out of key - Lars' fumbling his way through some double bass - No machine gun precision, just lose scratchy sounding guitars that you can't even make out the palm muting on. - Out of time/key main solo by Kirk. The song lost a lot in the downtune to Eb back in the mid nineties, and has gotten progressively worse ever since. I still love the song, I just think it's awful live. Kinda like The God That Failed - they just can't nail it, but at least that's not played at every show.

I can't disagree on much of what you are saying, even though you are referring to the absolute worst live versions. It's not every show Kirk butchers the solo's and Lars has improved on the DB too. But yeah, it's not the song it was 20 years ago, as with most others. The thing about it is that it needs the pyro, the lightshow and the lasers + it needs the dark. When I saw it on the request tour it had none of that, it was utterly lame, it was still bright, it really fell flat performed like that.

Did Kirk play anything on the studio version of NEM? Some little harmony during the verses? Or is it truly all James?

Here's Kirk at a Slayer show holding a water pistol. I got sent this pic and wasn't totally sure it was Kirk, looks a bit like a chick. Where did it come from? Also the guy next to him, looks like a young Lou Reed. My missus thought it was an early pic of me and my sister

So how old is that picture, he looks like the joker. He could pull off the villain look if he wanted.

At first, TDTNC felt disjointed to me, especially the 4 letter word part, but it all feels right now, I love it, all of it. The whole ending just makes me clench my fists and jaw. So IMO, it serves the songs subject matter perfectly.

After watching the Record Store video, Lars is actually improving. James is still great, his voice is improving, and Rob is flawless as usual. Kirk though, jesus. I've wondered if Kirks back to drinking or drugs. He doesn't seem the same the past few years.

TDTNC is still one of my favourite songs though.

Just wanna get this out, Devils Dance is such a great tune. Slow, fat, heavy, probably their second heaviest good song ever. I wish they would do more of those, it sounds immense on a good stereo

I'm not a big fan of Devil's Dance, it would probably fall into the bottom 10 if I had to rank all their songs. I just never got into it. If its playing I'll listen but more often skip it. Sounds like an old 70s band trying to be heavy, even more so with the S&M version. I don't hate it, if I was at a show I'd get into it, I just find it boring. Of all the slow, fat, heavy songs, it is my least favorite.
