I was listening to the demo snippets of Blackened not 5 minutes ago

How often do you guys listen to AJFA? Might give it a spin... The first five albums have been played to death when I was young. I don't listen to them very often now. I've listened to them TOO much.

How often do you guys listen to AJFA? Might give it a spin... Honestly, close to never. I think there's some great songs and riffs, but the songwriting is as clunky if not more clunky than some of their modern stuff, and the mix is still a little much unless you're really in the mood for that album.

I hardly ever listen to a Metallica album back to front anymore, asides from which ever new one dropped.
Load is probably the exception, that one gets alot of spins still.
AGFA, I'll cherry pick songs here and there, haven't listened to that one front to back in what seems like forever.

AJFA has been in my ute's 6CD player for well over 6 months. I dont use that car much but when I get in that one it is either that album or the extra CD that came with my Hardwired vinyl playing. Probably time to swap them out for others but I do reach for the volume a lot even after all these years. How can you listen to Blackened softly?

I haven't listened to AJFA for ages probably for the reasons you've given, just had the urge to blast it through some speakers.

Nothing sounds as awesome being played loud AF as those first bass drums kicking in when Blackened gets going after the snare hit/riff.
All the old stuff got many play throughs as I'd play along with them. I can't stand listening to Seek anymore, but playing along with it, it's a whole new song to me.

If I listen to full Metallica albums nowadays, it's gonna be Ride, Justice, Black or Hardwired. Those are my "big four". Sometimes I might listen to Reload, too. Otherwise it's just my Metallica Spotify playlist on random.

Otherwise it's just my Metallica Spotify playlist on random. These boxset releases are when those old albums are getting my full attention again. I hadn't enjoyed Black Album in its entirety probably since the mid 90s, other than being curious when they played it live in full (and then it was done back to front)

Somehow, something as stupid and simple as playing the track list backwards made the album awesome and fresh again. TBA opening with Struggle turns it's intro into like a classic album intro, followed by Misery and so on, puts NEM in the proper ballade slot (mostly).
How long was Lars shiting while he thought up that idea? Genius, pure genius!

Turns out they never played live for decades. Got that one wrong didnt I

I do remember learning Blackened on guitar and think the tail on the main riff was tricky.

I never fully learned blackened, I can stumble through it, but 100% ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ No way, never actually sat down and tried though.

Yep, never really got that tail right either. I love playing the slower riff, the one that ends at Eflat "Compromise"

Same. That riff is hard. Playing along with the track is one thing, trying to play it with you mates. Impossible.

And then I go on YouTube an some 6 year old girl is playing it flawlessly while also knitting a sweater with her feet at the same time. Where did my life go wrong 😒

It's very eye opening to see how much James immediately aged physically from drinking again.

It's very eye opening to see how much James immediately aged physically from drinking again. IVe thought the same. Seeing SM2, straight away I was Whats going on here? I did similar when I saw how much weight he had lost in the build up to 30th anniv shows.

It's very eye opening to see how much James immediately aged physically from drinking again. Drinking builds up lots of fluids in your body. Once you stop, you quite literally start drying up, as the fluid buildup drops off. That's why (especially older) ex-drinkers often can seem a bit emaciated.

I'm lost. Are we talking about S&M 2, or is James back to drinking again now?

I'm lost. Are we talking about S&M 2, or is James back to drinking again now? Sorry yeah I was talking about S&M 2. My TV autoplayed a bunch of LiveMet yesterday, and the Spring 2018 and Fall 2018 tours look 5 years apart. And Fall 2018 and Spring 2019 look another 5 years apart. It's crazy because Het appeared relatively the same from 2004-2018.

I've only watched "Through the Never" once in theaters. I remember it fairly well enough in my mind, and it seems like the old Jesse would have watched it over a million times, I have watch SKOM, Year and Half etc, too many times to count, but for some reason never rewatched That big old pile of awesomeness.

It was a little too theatrical for me to want to rewatch, but it was really fun in the theaters. The soundtrack I remember spinning for like a year straight. I remember listening to that live version of MOP, feeling like I was hearing it for the first time again.

In addition to the drinking, the mustache makes him look older too. I bet if he went back to his DM/Hardwired look he'd immediately look younger.

So, Rick Beato just released his interview with Rick Rubin a few days ago. I didn't had the time to fully watch it, but is seems that there's not a single mention about Rubin's work with Metallica or about the clipping/brickwalled sound scandal from "Death Magnetic". It felt like a missed opportunity, since I've always wondered if he ever had any input about this during the production of what could have been the greatest post-2000 Metallica album.
