I'm definitely down with that. Trainspotting is one of my favorite 90s movies.

Ive heard it's going to be more about continuing after Freddie's death than actually focusing on when he was in the band. If that's the case I'm not really interested. I'm just happy Rami got the role, he's a great actor.

Ive heard it's going to be more about continuing after Freddie's death than actually focusing on when he was in the band. If that's the case I'm not really interested. Yeah that's why Sacha Baron Cohen left the movie: "He tells me Freddie's death is in the middle of the movie. I go 'so it’s a bit like Pulp Fiction, where the end is the middle and the middle is the end? All right, that's a wild movie... that's interesting.' He goes, 'No, no, no. it's a normal movie.' I go, 'So wait a minute, what happens in the second half of the movie?' And he said, 'Well, you know, we see how the band carries on." Real dumb decision. No disrespect to May et al but Freddie was the star. Make a documentary if you want to tell the whole history of Queen; post-Freddie isn't the part of the story most people care about nor will expect from a biopic like this. Also it's from the writer of The Theory of Everything which was insipid as fuck and conveniently re-wrote or re-framed history for dramatic effect (feel-good cliche).

Hacksaw Ridge
So I saw this movie, I was a little worried about the religious overtones going into it but Mel Gibson handled it really well. It's not him forcing it down your throat, it's more of a story about one mans struggle with his beliefs during war time. This movie is by far the best war movie since Saving Private Ryan, and might be Mel Gibson's best work. Everything about it is great. The characters, pacing, dialogue (I don't even think there was a single F bomb dropped). The way the movie was shot makes you feel like you are being taken back to that time and place. Garfield does a wonderful job of playing one of the most inspirational people to come out of World War 2. This guy can seriously act.
Now the battle scenes are some of the most realistic I have seen put to film. You think Saving Private Ryan was bad? This makes it looks like child's play. It's VERY gory. But not in a Tarantino way. It captures the horrors of the fighting in the Pavific theater perfectly. Rats and maggots eating away at dead bodies and other things of that nature. But this is so much more than a war movie, it's about a guy that struggled to keep his beliefs during History's darkest period. He saw no race or color, helped friend and enemy all while not firing a shot. I'm very happy that the pacific theater has been getting a little more love as of late, it was such a different type of war than what was going on in Europe. There was no coming off the front lines after a tough battle and being sent to Paris for rest. Once you were put on an island you stayed there, often in the rain, mud, and heat. No showers or anything we take for granted for sometimes months. Not to mention they were fighting a brutal enemy that would fight to the death because capture would bring dishonor to their families and Emperor. There really wasn't even a front line in most of the battles because the Japanese often dug tunnels that would go throughout the whole island. There are many stories of people sleeping in a foxhole deep into controlled territory and when they woke up the person in the hole next to them would be dead because someone snuck in through the tunnels at night and killed them. It was war at its most barbaric form and the hatred between the two sides was very real. That's why this mans story is so damn interesting. Even though these people were trying to kill him and all of his friends he still had the innocence that many people lost and treated friend and foe the same way, helping them both. That to me was very touching. Many people lost their innocence and sometimes even their sanity, my grandfather being one of them.
You all really need to see this movie, it was an emotional rollercoaster but sends a very important message during these troubled times. When the movie ended people were clapping for a good five minutes.

Well, you sold me on it. Great post by the way, you are very passionate about. I loved We Were Solders, didn't Mel Direct that one as well?

The only movies Mel Gibson has directed are Braveheart, The Passion of the Christ, Apocalypto, and now Hacksaw Ridge.

Must have got passed the old radar Your missus not a Cumberbitch? Nope, she's a book worm, the only time she wants to watch a movie it's Bridget fucking Jones or Pitch Perfect type shit. Although Pitch Perfect was quite funny.

His review interested me too but then I saw the trailer.
Also, Steely didn't reveal Mel's mandatory anti-Semitic moment :o

Doctor Strange. Now this one I would have gladly paid more for 3D or 3D IMAX. I've been avoiding 3D lately because if anything it seems to subtract from the viewing experience in most cases. I'm hearing good things about the conversion on this one though, may have to pony up and hit IMAX.

I've been hearing a lot of "I usually hate 3D but this was really great in 3D," and I agree.
