Devotion - based on a true story about the 1st black American to be a fighter pilot 🛩️ Jesse Brown fought during the Korean war. I had no idea where the film was going as I'd never heard of Jesse's story before. by the end of the movie I was crying 😭 3.5/5 edit: I was wrong about Jesse being the first black fighter pilot, that was the Tuskegee airmen in WW2.

Apocalypse Now (redux)
Ooooo a whole extra hour of footage. I can't remember ever sitting down and checking this version out. I really enjoyed the extra scenes. I did not pull me away from the story which many claim it does. What a fucked up war. I love my 'Nam movies, and this one is by far perfect, along with Full Metal Jacket and Platoon, amongst others.
I guess I'll have to watch Platoon now.

John Rambo (2008): it's not that bad. It has a lot in common with the second movie (which is by far the best one). At first he doesn't want to become a war machine but eventually he does it anyway. What did we learn from this movie? You can shoot someone in half with a .50 cal. At the end we see John walk up to the ranch of his father where he finally can let go of the demons that have haunted him all his life ... maybe not.
This movie really makes you think about the absurdity of war.
Rambo - Last blood: Not bad either but hard to see as a Rambo movie. His niece gets taken by some Mexican women trafficers (so it is more like an uber violent Taken movie). So when that happens, life on the peaceful ranch is over and all hell breaks loose. Logical conclusion of the First Blood chapter.

I gotta say it was a bit boring at times 😜 I also can't believe he got busted again, what a dumbass! for some reason I thought he was smarter than that |

A Fistful of Dynamite - Duck You Sucker!
Haven't watched this one since I was a wee lad. Totally forgot it even existed. Such a great story. The 2 main characters didn't impress me much at the beginning, but as it kept going I found myself becoming deeply emotionally connected to the characters and their struggles.
The only thing I didn't understand is that John, the Irish guy, and his friend back in Ireland, they were both banging the same chick together and were cool with that?

I randomly started watching this documentary about the making of Donnie Darko. It was very interesting to get insight into how this movie was almost never made, and was the guys first movie and all that sort of stuff with casting and editing problems etc.
I had to then sit and rewatch Donnie Darko after watching the doc. Haven't watched it in 15 years. Watching it with fresh, and more educated eyes, was very cool. I always remembered it being good, but thought it was a little too overhyped, I was wrong, it is fantastic.

Black Phone - a thriller that the less you know before the film the better. 3/5.... edit: my mum's put on a Sandra Bullock film called Bird Box... looks like it's gonna be crap lol 😆🍻 30 minutes in and the movie is that bad it makes me want to hit my head against a wall 😆 |
