Get hard - I enjoyed it! I mean, it's simple and unoriginal and all that...but comedy doesn't always have to make love to my brain to be able to make me laugh...and I laughed quite a lot during it, which was all I was hoping/looking for with this movie.

I thought Get Hard wad hilarious, most of Will Ferrell's films are though.

Deadpool - I liked it. Was a little overkill but I guess that was intended.

Seen Captain America: Civil War today, thought it was awesome. Also as an Irish person hearing Iron Man's AI use the word "Knackered" was a hilarious touch. Spiderman was awesome, probably the best Spiderman so far.
Also Aunt May is really hot now.

10 Cloverfield Lane - Pretty good. Would have been better without the stupid ending.
Slow West - Decent western. Watched it cause I saw Fassbender was in it and it didn't disappoint.

I saw Zootopia in 3D with my kid and wife tonight. It was really cool. Lots of funny parts and a pretty intricate plot. Visually it was top notch and didn't indulge in any gimmicky 3D gags. You just felt emersed into the world. Great movie, 5\5

Her.
An odd film. Depressing in some ways, touching in a lot of ways, and, despite the subject matter, incredibly human.

10 Cloverfield Lane, another awesome film slightly ruined by a horrible ending.

I guess it's worth a watch, but that ending, they went all out. The plot was fairly easy to predict, but you had no idea how it would end and that sorta carried the movie.

I didn't think the ending was bad. It was good to find out if Goodman's character was lying or not.

I liked the ending of 10 Cloverfield Lane, but it being divisive is totally understandable. I expected it to get crazy towards the end given its name and it reminded me of shows like The Twilight Zone where they'd have a more grounded episode that then has a last minute twist. Regardless, I'm happy with them using the Cloverfield name to greenlight high-concept, low budget scripts from different writers and directors. It's a smart way of taking away some of the risk of funding an outlandish idea when the brand name attached guarantees a certain level of success (for now).

I don't mind the explanation for the ending I just wish they were a little more subtle with it and didn't go all War of the Worlds on us, it just annoying that all of a sudden she's this alien killing badass who takes down a spaceship with a molotov cocktail. They should have ended the film on the shot of her standing on the car seeing the spaceships far away. It would have set up the sequel and it wouldn't have gone full retard with the dynamic shift.

Nah, I don't want subtlety in a movie with Cloverfield in the title. We're talking about a franchise name that elicits thoughts of a giant monster throwing the statue of liberty head down a street; it should be ridiculous and bombastic on some level.

I would have preferred if it didn't have any ties to Cloverfield at all, apparently it was a stand alone movie until the production company butted in and made it into a 'spiritual sequel'. The movie was fantastic up to that point.

If it didn't have ties to Cloverfield it would've sold a fraction of the amount of tickets. You'd be lucky if such a small scale movie even got a wide release. That's why attaching the name is a good idea, it allows the studio to take more risks with outlandish scripts by attaching a safe franchise name to them.

Exactly, that was so fucking bad I can't believe it. Worst ending ever. I was hoping for a wicked ending but what you just described ruined it. Quite a dangerous route to follow, and a wrong one too imo. I would imagine loads of people being disappointed after watching this movie because of the lack of "Cloverfield". It's like they thought, yeah okay, this movie wasn't really what we hoped it would be, it's not gonna go anywhere when released, let's lash a name from a famous movie on it. Da fuck is that, in what other business area is that allowed. It would be like Dave saying, yeah okay, this album probably won't sell much, let put a sticker on the front that says James Hetfield plays on it.

Da fuck is that, in what other business area is that allowed. It would be like Dave saying, yeah okay, this album probably won't sell much, let put a sticker on the front that says James Hetfield plays on it. In what other business are anthologies "allowed"? Books, TV and movies. Different stories tied together by shared themes/genres/general vibes and a common name. The only difference here is Cloverfield wasn't set up to be that when the original released, so you're right that for at least this movie it has the potential to confuse and disappoint people based on their expectations of seeing the monster from the first movie. But it's exceedingly hard to get original scripts greenlit nowadays (quite a dangerous route to follow, and a wrong one; a production studio might say) so if attaching a recognizable name to a new script makes it safer to produce, I'm all for it. I'd sure take a run of original sci-fi/horror/monster movies than another franchise churning out sequel after sequel of the same stuff. Your music analogy doesn't really work as that would be an outright lie. If it was called 'Cloverfield 2: The Monster Is In It' you'd have a point. The Cloverfield name only implies something, they're just redefining it as an anthology franchise. Like I said, that still has the potential to make some people feel deceived but I'm sure they'll get over it; the movie in general has had a very positive reception.

Watched the first half of AntMan on Netflix. Was pleasantly surprised that I laughed more than I thought I would.
