Seems to be an extremely divisive episode amongst GoT nerds.

Dany: "My dragons are the only children I will ever have."
Jon: "I understand, no condoms." Ha.

"Viserion is dead, Jon has hypothermia, and now the Night king has a dragon all because the Hound couldn't behave like an adult." Also, ha.

I love that uncle Benjen had to die because "there's no time"

Maybe he should have said, "I'll hold them off."
Also, spoiler alert? Or is everyone in this thread accepting spoilers?

Well shit..... What I want to know is....where did they get those big ass chains in the middle of nowhere to pull it out of the water...? I've seen this concern about the chains a few places, and I don't get it. Like, why can't it just be that the Night King had chains that he got from some place at some time? Why do the chains need a backstory? It was just distracting in the moment. When watching the scene all I could think is 'I live in a major metropolis and I don't think I could find chains like that anywhere in the city and yet these fuckers who've been walking around the middle of nowhere for hundreds of years conveniently came across some dragon sized chains'? Hmmm.....

Hmmm..... That was the least distracting of this episodes (and seasons) convenient moments. Like the Night King just staring at them for days and nights as they somehow survive those temperatures, and then still being able to fight fortunately minutes before Dany turned up. And Benjen turning up at just the right time to save Jon. I still enjoyed it despite this just for the spectacle of it all but this is by far the shows least intricately set-up and delivered action sequence (yet one of the most visually impressive). You can feel the missing 3 episodes this season in its pacing.

Probably could have used 2 - 2 1/2 episodes of them beyond the wall before the final showdown.

Probably could have used 2 - 2 1/2 episodes of them beyond the wall before the final showdown. I've got a bad feeling about the series end. They've spent almost twice as long developing and filming this season as they did previous seasons but there's only half as many episodes as seasons past and they aren't even close to measuring up to the quality of previous seasons. Plus, from the very first episode we've been hearing 'winter is coming' but we've only got one season left and that shit still hasn't came yet. We've been hearing about how Dany and Jon's relationship is so pivotal to the plot but they're still pretty much getting to know each other at this point. There were 2 or 3 seasons of Dany skipping around with Darrio...fucking DARRIO in Maureen, someone I could give fuck all about, but here we are at the cusp of the series finale and these two motherfuckers haven't even kissed yet??? It's just not lookin good.....

This season has been great except for the pacing, which really throws the whole story out sometimes. It's al way too fast compared to previous seasons.
Also decisions like how they give us 20 mins of Samuel Tarly but skip over important character reunions.
They Deus Ex Machina of this weeks episode was noticeable but didn't bother me too much. But even so, the chains thing was the most minor of them all. The run-Forest-run scene and the SMS style raven message seemed more significant.

Could be that he's a greenseer like Bran and the Three Eyed Crow. Making assumptions sucks, but I wondered if maybe Benjen saw the dragons flying toward that direction. If that's the case, maybe we should have had a shot of him seeing them in the sky. This season doesn't have a lot to chew on. They're basically hitting the bullet points that will get them to the end.

Amazing episode... There are zombies, dragons, weird stuff happening all over and people are complaining about chains. I couldn't care less, you could pick every episode in every show ever apart if you look at it like that. + it looked freaking cool when they dragged the dragon out of the water.
This season have been muuuuuuuuuuch better than 5 and 6, I'm glad it's picking up, the only letdown is the pacing which you all have addressed already.
And please hide every spoiler, even your own thoughts to what might happen.

What are you smokin because I want some! Season 5...you had Cersei's walk of shame and Jon's murder.
Season 6 last two episodes was some of the best television id ever seen! This season might be hitting all the plot points but it lacks that intricacy and detail that makes a story great! Imagine if someone made a LOTR movie where the hobbits left hobbiton, then they were in rivendell, then they were in moria, then Rohan, etc etc...with none of those exposition/traveling scenes in-between. It wouldn't be nearly as great or intriguing as Peter Jackson's movie was.

They're basically hitting the bullet points that will get them to the end. Yeah you can explain away the conveniences with head canon, but taking time to set things up was one of the shows strengths and it gave weight to the big moments. This big moment was conceived, occurred and resolved in 1-2 hours of screen time. They've had convenient moments before, like the Knights of the Vale turning up to the Battle of the Bastards at just the right moment, but it at least established Sansa's actions/motivations and the rest of the battle had a seasons worth of momentum building up to it. It was still beyond awesome to look at, it just felt a little thin. Like the writers had the image of the dragons blue eye opening in their heads but they had barely any time to realistically set it up so it ended up feeling contrived rather than a natural story progression. I'm already over it though as long as the finale is good, it's not exactly "the worse episode ever" and "ruining the show" as some have claimed.

It's only an issue if you focus on it. It's there, but if everything surrounding it is good then eh, I can let it slide. Of course, you don't think everything surrounding it is good and turn it into an issue because YOU ARE COMPLETELY FUCKED IN THE HEAD, OREN!

Of course, you don't think everything surrounding it is good and turn it into an issue because YOU ARE COMPLETELY FUCKED IN THE HEAD, OREN! What's this about fucking me in my head??? I need my eardrums dammit! It really didn't bother me in earlier episodes but something about this latest episode.....it's just EVERYTHING feels so rushed! Even if we ignore Gendry's infinite stamina, the fiber-optic ravens and 200 foot long, 15 feet wide chains....other shit in the episode just feels off. *spoiler alert about the sandsnakes* Did you know this is the last season we're going to see the sandsnakes on the show? Unless they're featured on next weeks episode, does the way we last saw them feel like a proper closure on that story to you? And what about Dany and Jon Snow? Their 'love story' just feels forced because it wasn't given time to develop. It seems like Jon just likes Dany...just because and Dany likes Jon because he apparently stares at her or some bullshit. And what about Varys....he was once one of the most intriguing characters on the show and now he's just getting punked by Danny and sitting around at Dragonstone twiddling his thumbs....doesn't make sense. Idk man....it's too early to call but we'll see.

I was watching this video about the doom of valyria last night and did you know the valyarians used to be sheep hearders with brown hair who lived in a fertile valley surrounded by volcanos. One day some dothraki like people came by and was like, this is our land now and the valyarians were like "ok, cool" because they were non-violent. And the dothraki clones were like, "oh yeah, were taking your women too!" And the valyarians were like "wtf, no you're not!" And the dothraki were like, "either give us your women or we burn you." So they were like, "I guess we're gonna get burned" and the dothraki moved forward with setting them on fire. Well, as the fire was approaching, it began to speak to them and offered to give them dragons blood....all they had to do was ask. So they were like, "okay, give us dragons blood" and the fire consumed them. Once the flames died down, all the valyarians rose up from the ashes and they now had platinum hair and purple eyes. They were like, "fire doesn't hurt us...neat!" and they started climbing in the volcano's and that's where they found dragons eggs.....and the rest is history.
I found it interesting that the fire spoke to them and gave them these powers since a lot of people seem to speak to fire in these books. I wonder what's in the fire?

So…basically if they hadn’t had this stupid idea of zombie hunt 2 episodes ago that resulted in handing the dragon to the blue guys, the Night King would have been stuck beyond the wall forever like he has been for 7 seasons My god what a giant disaster this show has become.
