Just finished up watching all the seasons with the wife. It was a pretty good show...but those last 2 or so episodes of season 5 just left me feeling bleh. Just to confess, I'm a book reader, so I am a little biased against the show.
However...
It felt like they fell wildly into the old TV standards in those last few episodes. "Someone gonna die? Let's make sure we have some heartfelt stuff right before, so it really gets them!" That happened so god damn much all of the sudden.
And the sand snakes...fucking good lord the sand snakes. Talk about a season of useless with the sand snakes. "We need boobs...let's just have that happen in Dorne."
Terrible acting. Terrible dialogue. Terrible, pointless story. And making Doran entirely impotent for the Seven Kingdoms to see was maybe the worst part of that entire adaptation.
OH well, season 6 looks like it has some promise. The previews are certainly exciting.

I haven't read the books so I don't know where they strayed off course, but I loved/love the show. It's the only show I've ever bothered to watch multiple times. With that said, the last two seasons have been pretty lackluster and I'm not really feeling it as much as I did before. It often seems like one incoherent mess, and that saddens me. The Sansa stuff was boring The Arya stuff even more dull The Sandsnakes stuff was just one big WTF I'm not interested in Daenerys anymore, it just goes on and on and they even managed to make Tyrion boring. The Cersei and the sparrows stuff was also really poorly done, it came out of nowhere really. I'm still looking forward to season 6 though

The only thing that saved the Sparrow stuff for me was the guy playing the High Sparrow. That ma'fucka be acting like what?!

Feel like they could be a little more careful about spoilers with their previews. I mean I don't care, but I know some do.

People said the ending was mentioned in the books, but that caught me off-guard. Also, the complaining about seeing her without her necklace before is dumb since the rules for glamours haven't been established in the show yet.
Some of the trailer analysis videos are already completely wrong, so it will be interesting to see what other cool shit happens.

Who do you guys think is going to die this season? My bets are on old greyscale jorah and a couple of those dorne ladies. I also don't think Jeoffreys younger brother, the current king is going to fair too well either. Maybe Margery as well.

Has anyone here ever watched Misfits ? The last scene reminded me of an episode of that.
Thought it got off to a pretty good start to set things up.
I still really like the show but is it just me or has the dialogue gone downhill in the last two seasons.

The dialogue has definitely gone down hill. Much like the shocking deaths, the show runners seem to think people were tuning in for crude language.
Also, WHERE THE FUCK DID THOSE TWO SAND SNAKES COME FROM?!

That has nothing to do with GRRM.
Dorne is a mess of a story in the show.
Everything else is still good.

That has nothing to do with GRRM. Dorne is a mess of a story in the show. Everything else is still good. It's the same way in the books. You're following the story of the Starks, Lanistars and everyone else in Westeros then seemingly out of nowhere there's all these chapters about sand snakes. It wouldn't be that big of a deal but those chapters are exceedingly boring. Literally absolutely nothing interesting has happened regarding the sand snakes in the book so far. Although the TV has surpassed the books at this point with the murder of Marcella...

I wouldn't call that "jumping the shark." He didn't start doing that though until right around the forth book....or when the series really started to become popular. It seems like he padded whatever his original plan was for Dorne in order to extend the books. The chapters on Dorne are no where near as well written as the previous chapters. Same thing for Maureen. That story line could have been wrapped up in one book yet he continued to drag it out.

Bring back Khal Drogo instead from the dead - he is imperative to the story line or for me to look at - one of those things is true :)
Jon Snow knows nothing anyways ;)
