Damn. They were totally off in the beginning, and then at one point it seemed like they were almost together and then all of a sudden Kirk just froze and it became a James solo.

Wow, that was painful to listen to. I wanna see a compilation of Rob messing up, guarantee you that wouldn't be a long video haha. Who's fault was that? James or Kirk?

Different angle (where you can see Kirk's face):

Different angle (where you can see Kirk's face): Not to read into it too much, but Hetfield looks pissed.

I'd be pissed as well. Took Lars how many years to get his shit together, and now Kirk consistently fumbles his way through most shows. Plus its one of those moments where James gets to have fun with some cool harmonies, and kirk just fucked it all up.

Jesus Hetfield looked like he wanted to hit Kirk over the head with his guitar.

This was posted on Reddit, so who knows if it's true. But at this point I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility.

I think people overreacts when they think Metallica has made their last album, but this situation on the other hand is really scary. Mainly because it's not like it's just happened. Kirk has gotten worse over the years. And there is something wrong, be it addiction or whatever, that is obvious. It's difficult to think of a Metallica future without Kirk, but at the moment I feel it could actually happen.
Lars seems to just wing it nowadays and don't mind, but even though Metallica is very open for the fans, many things can be discussed behind the scenes. And for James, I can actually believe that Reddit rumour. Although he's seemed to be more mellow and a family man after rehab - one can never forget he lives and breathes Metallica. If this goes on any further, god forbid something happens on the Grammys and Kirk completely fucks up that performance, I don't think he is taking much more of Kirks bullshit.
But again - this is just speculation. But I guess that's one of the reasons many Metallica forums exist.

I'd be pretty fucked off if the decision came thru (not from Kirk) that someone else will be stepping in.
Poor dude gave James how long to sort his shit out?

Who would be a good fill in, should kirk step aside for whatever reason for a while? I'm out of touch with who's cool now a days.

If Mustaine is in any way in the loop, I am sure the offer has already been emailed through to HQ.
Fuck what a joke that would be

Mustaine would never be back in Metallica right now, especially in his current state. His playing live nowadays is nearly as bad as Kirk, and Megadeth's become almost as much as a joke brand as Kiss. He was on fire when the band came back in 2004 (which holy shit was like 12 years ago now) but nowadays, not so much.
I take those Kirk rumors with a grain of salt, but a lot of it makes sense. No one can deny the off-ness between the making of videos and his performances lately. I know Kirk has been in since '83, but Metallica still is the James and Lars show, so Kirk leaving wouldn't be the most world changing thing to happen to the band. Ideally, I'd love to see Kirk take leave for a couple of years and get a touring guy, so they never go record an album with someone else. But being left to his own devices could be not too great for the guy.
That being said, Kirk has always had a bit of aloofness for the last several years. I mean in 2006 he opted out of flying to Cali to record the solo for their cover of Ecstasy, so James just did it instead.

If someone does come in, it will just be to finish the tour.
If Kirk needs that than I am all for it because I want the dude to get whatever he needs to do behind him. I think the Metallica camp is smart enough to know that replacing Kirk at this stage in their career just wouldn't be the right thing to do.
The Mustaine thing was a joke by the way. I can't stand that guy anymore.

Metallica isn't only James and Lars for me. I mean Kirk has been right there almost from the beginning. If he'll be replaced permanently (which I don't think at all) I'm on the same page as Kimbo.

Kirk has sucked since 2003, no solos on St. Stinker, i still like him though.

While Kirk's presence would be sorely missed, I still think that Metallica is still first and foremost the James and Lars Show. And it's not like no other old band changed long-time members in late years - I mean, Judas Priest replaced K.K. Downing, and just look at AC/DC. Hell, even Slayer continued after Hanneman died, and he was definitely more integral to Slayer than Kirk is to Metallica.

Despite his recent (and not-so-recent) guitar playing issues, I still think Kirk's a really cool and chill dude and it'd be a shame if his personal problems resulted in him getting kicked out of the band. It just doesn't feel right so late in the game. Work through that shit, do whatever it takes to fix whatever's the problem here.

And I'd never want to see Kirk permanently leave Metallica, but I'd rather see him get the help he may or may not need than either carry on and hurt himself, or just cause the whole band to fold.

That Reddit story makes sense, maybe not some parts of it, but I can see the addiction part, but it seems to me his fuck ups (correct me if I'm wrong, I don't watch every video nowadays) are fast parts like in Fight Fire With Fire or Ride the Lightning. So that leads me to deduce that it's arthritis or something medical like that, but who knows. It's sad to see that and unfortunately, this is just the warm up to the whole tour.
I mean usually a band is pretty fresh at the start of a tour. Just look at Lars when they started touring again in 2003, Rock am Ring '03 was a testament to that, but if Kirk is already like this not even 5 shows into a warm up tour. Then that's not good. I'm assuming they are going to have dates for most of 2017 and probably into 2018. Maybe they need to structure the setlist to fit his troubles. Like maybe putting faster songs in the beginning and having it ease off through the show so it's not taxing on him. I don't know. Even though he played The Day That Never Comes in Singapore pretty good.

The corpse of AC/DC that Angus Young insists on continuing to drag around is basically just a tribute band at this point.
