I can’t do it. Can’t listen to the first songs in 13 years that were recorded using a phone.

After listening to both a lot, I love them. But, I do prefer their ones that are catchier, (and a tad shorter) and hope they have some of those coming. I read somewhere that all the songs on the new album are going to be in excess of 10 mins in length so I think you're out of luck.

I can only take so much brooding. But, not gonna be surprised if the entire album is like that. I read the 2 songs they played are supposedly the shortest on the album. LAWL

So are you all aware of this 10,000 days magic and just forgot to tell me, or is this not well known? Take 2 songs, put them together, overlay the other song = new song. Pretty clever

I think all three are boring rehashes of the same patterns and beats they've used before.

I'm thinking we'll see a new Tool album some time in 2019 How right you were. New song is ok. Sounds like Tool, but I think most songs off of 10,000 days were better.

New song is pretty good. Production quality sounds fantastic. Why can't all bands these days release albums with that level of production quality.

I agree the production is killer as to be expected. The song just bores me though 😞 I think tool just isn't for me

It's just good to finally have new Tool music. People who are whinging that it's not worth a 13 year wait are kinda annoying. Artists are under no obligation to release anything according to a schedule that suits you. They obviously haven't been working on it the entire 13 years so it's not going to magically be the best album ever just because it was 13 years between albums. I can understand why some people don't like the drawn out songs and recycled riffs but I enjoyed 10,000 days and to me listening to this is going to be just a continuation of that style, as though they had released this new album only a few years after that so it suits me fine.

I like the new song. It sounds like the tool that I like. Was never much of a fan but their music was always around me. If you showed me this song and said it was from any of the earlier albums, I'd believe you. Definitely need to be in the mood, can't just pop it on and start cleaning the house. Headphones and solitude are a must to enjoy the full experience of Tool.

It's a good song but the album will probably be a snoozefest judging from their other stuff.

Which Tool song has the highest energy/speed? Does any of them have energy or speed? And I don't mean that as an insult - it's just not really Tool's thing.

That's why I ask, I'm only familiar with like 30% of their music, thought there might be some crazy obscure track. Their live show must be a downer if this is the case.

You don't go to a Tool show expecting a thrash metal show in the first place. They are heavy psychedelic rock/metal. Some of their early stuff was on the heavy 'grunge' spectrum. Songs were shorter, no atmosphere, just 'rockin'. Worse imo. I'm not a big fan of their first two releases except for the obvious stand outs.

Lol, yeah, I'm not expecting a thrash show, but, what song gets people moving the most at a show? They must have one.

Their songs tend to change pace a lot. They are all about the moody/heavy back and forth and ending with a climax. So they don't really have straight bangers.
I guess the if I really had to pick an old heavy one they rarely play live...

This might be a fair example of what you are talking about. Was a popular song of theirs and I like when they kick back in at around 3m33s after the "interludey" bit

Which Tool song has the highest energy/speed? The Opiate EP has all their high energy/fast songs.
After that, they have little spurts here and there in some songs.
