Brent Hinds' solos on this record is probably the best work I've ever heard. The solos just scream soul and beauty, can't describe it.

I'll just copy and paste what I wrote on Reddit:
Forgot about this. I think the whole point was that he wanted the new Mastodon album to be a double album, and wrote the whole of the first part of that album himself. Instead he'll release it solo. Very much looking forward to this!

Jaguar God is perfection.
Brent may be the best riffmaker and composer ever. They should just let him be in charge.

Just listened to the album.
I would consider myself a Mastodon fan but i found the album slightly underwhelming.
Stand out tracks: Show Yourself, Sultan’s Curse, Jaguar God.
6/10

Yeah so I don't think Brent's solo album is getting released on RSD.

Yeah, well that sucks so much. It's gotta be released at some point, not letting the world hear what Brent Hinds have made on his own is just a crime against music in my opinion.

They're very good at picking Brent's singing parts, to the extent I can't decide if it's cool when he comes in because of that extra factor or if he should just sing more, period. :o

Mastodon are one of my favourite bands but this album is shitty. 2/3 decent tracks the rest is mush.

After giving it a few relistens, it's definitely not as good as I first thought. Too much emphasis on cheesy choruses and not enough interesting moments. Many songs sound the same and fail to even remotely interest me. I like the last 3 songs and Word to the Wise and Brent's solos are incredible and make some lame tracks significantly less lame. But overall this is just not that great of an album and the my thoughts on the first 2 singles spread to most of this album. 6/10.

Have this about 10 spings now. I love the album. Yes, if you aren't a fan of catchy choruses you'll be turned off, however, there is definitely a lot of depth to the tracks.
Favorites:
Steambreather, Clandestiny, Word to the Wise, Andromeda, Jaguar God
The only one I'm not into is Show Yourself, but it makes sense according to my interpretation of the album. A last glimpse of feeling upbeat and hopeful.

Jaguar God just gets better and better.
It may be my favorite Mastodon song. It could have been on CtS.

Thoughts so far:
- First half is great - the second half has felt pretty samey...need more listens but the songs sounded very similar on the first go around - so much Bran. He's pretty much the lead singer on this album. I like his voice, but mainly because it brought dynamics to their sound, on this album it seems like it's mainly him singing, so there aren't too much dynamics in the vocals. - it feels like the last couple of Mastodon albums, a few cool songs, and a bunch more that are too similar sounding to be memorable, or have nothing interesting or catchy about them. - Jaguar God is easily my favourite song. It's really great and is exactly the type of songs I want to hear when I listen to Mastondon. It's what they do best. Although Sultan's Curse is up there too.
I like my Mastodon either straight up catchy and heavy, like Leviathan, or straight up melodic like Crack The Skye. This middle ground they've been living in for the last three albums is a little frustrating to me because the albums have great moments, but are filled out with all this middle ground stuff, and it seems this album is no different.
But that's all just off one listen, so I'll see how my opinion changes.

On my third listen now, enjoying it more and more. Definitely better than The Hunter and Once More Round the Sun.

I'm really enjoying t he album but they do lean on Brann vocally a bit much nowadays, it's a shame Brent isn't a better live singer because he's my favourite on record and I'm sure that's why they don't use him as much nowadays.

The middle part in Clandestiny = sex The main riff in that song is pretty cool.

Definitely a few notches below OMRTS. Some songs start nice but develop into run-of-the-mill-with-melodic-chorus stuff.
Not getting better with more listens.
