I welcome them being in side projects.
It means you have more influences when you go back to write.
IMO - nobody being in side projects is really stunting Metallica's songwriting.

As long as no influences from Killer Be Killed end up in Mastodon I'll be happy. Still waiting on Giraffe Tongue Orchestra, they've announced Will from Alice In Chains is the vocalist so that's pretty awesome.

Gone Is Gone have released their first song, it's okay, nothing original but it's much better than Killer Be Killed, sounds kinda like Lullabies To Paralyze/Era Vulgaris era QOTSA with the fuzziness of Kyuss.

Some info at the bottom of this article about the Giraffe Tongue Orchestra album. "From adventurous progressive-metal epics like "Crucifixion", "Broken Lines" and "Fragments & Ashes" to pounding rock anthems like "Adapt Or Die" and "Back To The Light" (featuring a vocal cameo from Lewis), to future crossover classics like the gorgeous power ballad "All We Have Is Now" and the electrifying made-for-radio dance-rock of "Everyone Gets Everything They Really Want", and the album's equally propulsive first single, "Blood Moon", GIRAFFE TONGUE ORCHESTRA's debut album promises to be one of the most exciting releases of 2016." www.blabbermouth.net/news/giraffe-tongue-orchestra-feat-alice-in-chains-mastodon-the-dillinger-escape-plan-members-debut-album-out-soon/#Ay74VYZ4bu2HHIlx.99Sounds interesting.

Sounds really interesting. I'm hoping Brent sings on it too.

Gotta love those spiels about new releases that use a lot of words but don't actually tell you anything about the album.

I didn't really care at all for both those songs, I'd take Killer Be Killed over that any day of the week.

I though Killer Be Killed was kinda... yuck. But had some good moments.
Starlight's a bit different. And it's cool hearing Troy doing different kind of music.

So Giraffe Tongue Orchestra have finally released some music. The album, Broken Lines, comes out in September.

Just saw this. Can't wait.
If Brent is responsible for a whole disc - we might get another Crack The Skye.
And If Bill is writing more - we may get some more songs like Remission too.

It's cool that they're secure/comfortable enough to do stuff like this. Almost a solo album within a Mastodon album, plus a Mastodon album. Not surprising since they all seem very grounded and down to earth in interviews.
And a Bee Gees type Mastodon song sounds like an instant winner.

I hope they don't go with Raskulinecz again. I've never liked his production.

If it is a double - it will be their 7th and 8th album in 17 years. Averaging an album every 2 years. Plus a couple of EPs of unreleased music.

Ooh, I always worry about double albums, but the whole Brent writes one, the band writes another does sound intriguing, he did write the bulk of Crack The Skye on his own while recovering from a head injury.

Thus far they've had a pretty good filter and thy write for a long time honing the songs. I'm hopeful that it will be mostly great material.
Opposites by Biff Clyro is a double album and that's one where the 2nd disc is as strong as the 1st disc. It can be done.
If they both write like a 40 min album each - it will be one jam-packed CD's worth of music on two discs. I'd prefer that.
Seperate them into moods - rather than have 2 discs of 80 minutes each.

I was hoping for a 6-7 song per album as well. A double album is fine, as long as it's not a two hour total run time.

Giving "Once More Round The Sun" a spin for the first time in ages and loving it.
It didn't help that it came out when I was in a really bad place.
Hate when that happens. It sours your opinion of the album.
But it's sounding great today.
The outro to Aunt Lisa especially.

That could fit on one CD but they made it two instead. A "double" as long as Load/ Reload where each album fills the CD would be too much. That would be 2 hours and forty minutes of new music. I'd rather they released them a year apart...

Agreed, it would simply be too much music to absorb at once
