Every album since Remission has felt like a step up.
Once More...felt a bit muddy but had great songs.

I find most of their output patchy but the last two albums were ace. Hopefully the forthcoming one will be up to that standard.

I listened to Once More Round the Sun only a few days ago. Such a great album. Looking forward to hearing what they do next.

No Winter EP then, I guess.
BUT, a full album is better anyway!

As long as that album is similar to how the EP was described. I was so looking forward to a spacey, dark, Brent-driven journey.

I only REALLY like The Hunter, but their newest effort is great as well. I just wish the production was better

I'll give some of their disco another chance. I really wish I still had a weed connection. That really would probably help.

Have you given Crack the Skye a go Sig? The Hunter ---> Crack The Skye For someone "not getting" mastodon, I think CtS would be the better CD to recommend. I like The Hunter too though, but not over CtS (or OMRtS)

May as well rank them all...
Crack The Skye Leviathan Once More 'Round the Sun Remission Blood Mountain The Hunter
I always feel a bit dirty putting something last for these guys. The Hunter is still great and Remission/Blood Mountain are pretty much even to me.

Eh, gave it another shot, I don't feel anything when I listen to this band. There is a bunch of playing and singing, but I feel no emotion from it. None of the songs are amazing. Nothing 'for the books.' Just another band. Which is fine, but, I don't feel the 'best band since' and these 'MOP' comments, lol. I mean, the band is ok, and I don't hate the music, but, c'mon.

I get that you're not 'into' the band but you can't just say they're any other band. They're probably the most acclaimed mainstream metal band of the 21st century. They also practically influenced a new style of progressive/sludge metal with bands like Baroness and Kylesa influenced by them. Pitchfork #126 album of the decade in all genres. (Leviathan) Rolling Stone #9 aoty in all genres (Blood Mountain) Time Magazine #3 aoty in all genres(Crack The Skye) Spin Magazine #12 aoty in all genres (Crack The Skye) Rolling Stone #12 aoty in all genres (Crack The Skye) The Times aoty #1 in all genres (The Hunter) Rolling Stone #38 aoty in all genres (The Hunter) Those are mainstream media outlets who rarely even like mainstream metal. When has Time Magazine ever given any 'Time' to a metal band ? Never mind putting them in the top 3 of an end of year list. And that isn't even counting all of the metal magazines over the years who have given Mastodon #1 aoty/decade. They're a great band, and if Metallica didn't fuck up by making the Load's a double album, musically their evolution/acclaim over the years would have been very similar.

I think it should go without saying that it is just my opinion about their music in my world. I give zero shits about magazine awards. Good for them.
