Modern Warfare 2 and Black Ops 1. Cod became shit but those 2 games are godly Black Ops 1, 2 and 3 are great, but Modern Warfare 2 is the worst of the series. It was the first CoD to introduce all the stuff everyone hates about CoD now. Instead of running around shooting, all characters were prone under desks just using kill streaks. Horrible game.

I remember disliking Black Ops 2 at the point where you get an automatic shotgun that has flaming rounds, that just jumped the shark a bit too much for me. Also the MP maps felt like it was people playing paintball.

I was interested in FFXV until I saw the Base footage.
It doesn't look like Final Fantasy ! It looks like Call of Duty plus Magic.

I hate all the futuristic/cartoony stuff that's been in the later games, but the Black Ops series is just so balanced and fun that I can look past it all. I have the same sort of fun in CoD now than I did in Quake and Quake 2 back in the day. I would love a new WW2 shooter that gets the balance between realism and arcade type fun just right, like CoD2, CoD World at War and DoD did.

The new Doom looks amazing. Is going to be so much fun. Remember when games were about fun, instead of trying to chip away at all the "content" like skinning animals and building fences?

Just played a bit of Need for speed most wanted, since I got it for free from origin.
It was fun for a while, until I got bored of driving around.

I play Minecraft several times a week, just on my own. (I did have a Realms subscription for six months with my ex-housemate last year, but we didn’t end up renewing it for some reason.) Part of my current main base. I also play Skyrim once a fortnight or so (I’m a level 40 Dark Elf mage there).

XCOM: Enemy Unknown on Classic-mode.

I LOVED the original UFO: Enemy Unknown (and X-COM: Terror from the Deep, even if it was basically the same game, only under water).
I've played the new X-COM through twice as well. How is the classic mode different from the "normal" mode?

I LOVED the original UFO: Enemy Unknown (and X-COM: Terror from the Deep, even if it was basically the same game, only under water). I've played the new X-COM through twice as well. How is the classic mode different from the "normal" mode? Copied from XCOM Wiki: 1. Base global panic starts at 8. (1 per location) 2. XCOM HQ has 30 units of starting power. 3. If unchecked, alien activity causes at least 1 panic, but will often cause 2 or 3. 4. Soldiers cost §15 and start with 4 base HP (and get an additional +1 from Body Armor). 5. Alien AI is unshackled; Aliens use grenades and special powers more frequently. 6. All ranged Aliens except Sectoids receive +10 Aim and +10 Critical Chance bonuses; Sectoids only receive +10 Critical Chance bonus. Several aliens also receive additional HP; notably the health bonuses on Outsiders (+2 HP) and Thin Men (+1 HP) paired with their high accuracy can make the first few months especially more difficult. Melee aliens receive small damage bonuses. Sectoid Commanders and Ethereals receive +25 Will bonuses. 7. There are more alien pods per mission and a higher chance of a pod having more aliens (up to 3). 8. Satellite coverage produces fewer scientists and engineers per country. 9. XCOM does not start with an Officer Training School. 10. Starting funding is §75 plus the funding from the country where XCOM HQ is located. Something else I noticed is that panic levels seem to rise much faster in Classic-mode, which becomes somewhat frustrating. Also, the AI is fucking ruthless to the point where once a mission begins, you could move one unit a mere two or three spaces and have multiple AI converge on your location almost immediately, which can lead to multiple units being killed within seconds of the mission.

Ah. So it relates more to the back-end game settings, then. I thought it might strip the moving camera angles etc. to make the gaming experience seem more like in 1994. :P

Right click - properties - ran as win xp? Failing that Google how to get it going CoD 1 runs if you rename the exe to another game. Can't remember what game, but it's specific and works.

If you ever decide to play it on Classic, as far as countries/continents are concerned, make North America, Europe and Africa your priorities since they offer the best continent-bonuses. Don't worry about losing South America and Australia, for they are useless, and with Asia, it varies.

I don't think there is such a thing as "don't worry about losing South America and Australia" for me. Even with the original UFO: EU, I was very much worried about losing any funding, let alone have territories withdraw their funding altogether. I saved frequently.

Well, Normal-difficulty is easy in regards to keeping countries, but as far as Classic, or Classic-Ironman, good luck with that.

Oh yeah, if the 'classic' you're talking about is anywhere near as difficult as the actual 'classic' game of 1994 in terms of keeping the territories, it is very, very difficult indeed. (Though I would think that the modern version's 'classic' difficulty actually refers to the same settings as the 1994 game had. 8-| )

But as far as Ironman, I'm not even considering that at this juncture. Fuck that.

I remember I downloaded a mod for the first X-com which gave you 40 seconds to complete your turn and if you didn't then it would just leave your characters there. I was stressing and sweating on every turn but goddamn it was fun.

Has anyone else seen the remake of MGS1 using the unreal 4 engine? Konami knows of it and there was a response on the official twitter and so far nothing about suing. Also www.facebook.com/ShadowMosesUnreal/

They're doing a season 2 but it's new characters and story. Incidentally Firewatch is out next week which I'm really looking forward to. Similar kinda story-driven adventure game by the writers of The Walking Dead season 1.

Also www.facebook.com/ShadowMosesUnreal/That would be crazy if that actually came out. I'd have no way to play it, but I really hope it does see the light of day.
