So there is hope that Justice will have more bass, I really can't wait for that. Seeing as all my Metallica CDs have gotten preaty banged up over the years, its a great time to start over again. I just can't see how they will improve on the 90s albums, those sound about as good as a CD can sound as is, besides what some would have to say about the production on Relaod.

Yup. Lots of people. Me included. Bloody hipster When I was 15 (so around 2009) I noticed, in the second hand record shop my friends and I would frequent, that, especially for older music, that it was considerably cheaper for me to buy old LPs/7" rather than the newer CDs. So, you bet I went and got myself a cheap record player! See, while not denying my hipsterish tendencies, I think here national stereotypes and being tight with cash won out. Oh eh, on topic, I don't think I'll pick up these re-whatevers: I'm not sure I can afford/justify the price or bring myself to care enough. I'll give jaysee's soundcloud comparison a whirl later tho.

It does bode well, yup. I think Justice and the Bob Rock albums will be VERY interesting in terms of what changes will be made and how the finished article sounds. TBA is pretty much sonically, perfect.

I was going to ask if they were remastering TBA too. It's faaaaaaaar from being my favourite Metallica record but man does it sound phenomenal.

TBA is pretty much sonically, perfect. Maybe they will boost all those cool tracks they show in the Classic album DVD. There are so many extra layers of stuff going on that never made it on the final mix. Like all those cool extra low end acoustics on Unforgiven etc. That would be bliss, it would be like a whole new album. Extra vocal harmonies and lost leads.

Would be a fucking travesty to get nice boxes for only a portion of the catalogue. It does bode well, yup. Hmmm maybe but I think what you're talking about there is remixing not remastering. To boost things buried in the original mix would require remixing the master tracks whereas mastering is about improving the grouped sonics (mixed drums, mixed bass etc ). AFAIK.

Like jaysee said, that would be more remixing than remastering. But I had the same idea as you but maybe as bonus content in the deluxe sets they could include alternate versions of songs with these layers and hidden harmonies brought to the front a little more. That would be sweet.

The orchestra tracks for NEM and Unforgiven boosted to S&M levels would also be a dream come true. I know this won't be remix thing, but I can imagine how cool that would be.

Four Horseman sounds just the same, maybe a bit louder lol. Ditto for Creeping Death.

I think people were expecting a remix. No matter how many times you tell them, they just don't get it.
These remasters do sound better - they're cleaner and each instrument cuts thorough cleaner, especially the bass.
If you expected these albums to sound significantly different, and purchased them based on that, you have no one to blame but yourself!

I understand that yepsure, that's why i'm not shelling my hard earned cash for something which only sounds about 5% better than the original.

I more interested in all the bonus live stuff. The 1985 Metal Hammer No Remorse video was awesome. I've only seen The Four Horsemen and Creeping Death video's, I knew there was a No Remorse, but I never got around to seeing it until this. Goddamn.

Hey, welcome (back)! ...and I agree about the live stuff (especially the videos for me) being the most interesting part of this.

You think they only sounds 5% better? No - it's hard to put attribute a figure to how much better they sound. But for me, it's not a purchase I'm going to make. I'm not a collector, iTunes/Apple Music/Spotify will have the remasters, and the live/bonus recordings are a watch/listen once or twice out of curiosity type of affair - inevitably it'll end up on YouTube. I can't justify the cost for something I have only a passing interest in. This is not me being critical of the packages they have put together, they do seem really great and will appeal to those that collect or love that early era of the band. When it comes to the Puppets, Black Album, Load era remasters and rereleases, it's going to be a totally different story for me and will most likely result in day 1 preorders.

I wonder if we get a disc thrown into one of these boxsets that has all the one-offs like Ronnie Rising, Blind Man, Ecstasy, Remember Tmrw, etc, even I Disappear (hoping for the early version(s) of this one too though).

I get ya and understand where you're coming from. I think that, for me, in my little fat heart, I'm still a bit of a mark for Metallica. There was no doubt I was going to buy these, as I will the other ones.

Lights and Fight was awesome because of Lars, otherwise I don't really like much from that medley. It's too damn slow, Hetfield dosen't sound very good either
