I'm not familiar with these song, but the performance was great. Clearly very well rehearsed.

Yellow Brick Road opener Yep, Im surprised you're not aware. It really is a strong album, worthy of its praise.
I recall mid90s working in a lab with 2 other guys, this album and Physical Grafitti were played one after the other constantly for at least 6 months if not longer. Until they hired a 4th guy :-/

I loved that they took on this song. Great to see them playing again, they all look good. So impressed with their choice and they smashed it. Elton and Bernie seemed impressed. Great shit, had a few goose bumps through that

I actually quite enjoyed the covers, not my favourite Elton John songs but nevermind.

Listened to the original shortly before the Metallica version. Enjoyed the original but the cover even more actually.

Wow - somehow this gave me goosebumps. That’s a first in, many many years.
I think I just really love it when they play at places like this and just knocks it out of the park. Showing the entire music scene who (still) is the boss. Well done guys.

I really, really liked this version. It was a more straightforward, rocking version, but they absolutely killed it. James and Kirk played fantastic, and James' vocals were on point.

I feel like it's been a while since everyone played as well as they did here. They definitely rehearsed the heck out of it. When the man himself is watching from the front row, you better deliver.

Feel like this band kinda goes through waves of "we suck, we need to really practice to be good" and "we're so good, we don't need to practice shit".

The gap between the two legs of the tour was put to good use. This, the load box starting up, who knows what else they've been up to... I'm still hoping for a cover album or a deluxe 72S before one of the tour legs. It's pretty standard practice nowadays for pop artists, and I think the new songs could use a bump in everyone's memory.

The cover would've been alot better if James had shaved his moustache off.

The cover would've been alot better if James had shaved his moustache off. Incorrect. Cover would been more better had James long hair, a mullet, and mutton chops to match moustache, along with him drinking and swearing in between song. Get it right, you plebian rube.

The cover would've been alot better if James had shaved his moustache off. Would have been EVEN better if he had time travelled to 1989 to sing this cover imo tbh.

I pulled the GYBR vinyl out on Saturday night and listened to it in full. Again, Im super impressed the band settled on this choice. They, typically, made it their own.
Whwn we spoke about what they might play weeks earlier, I suggested Ballad of Daniel Bailey. Listening to it with that in mind, I could imagine that actually working well. Then get James to rework Sweet Painted Lady at his next Musicares acoustic set.
