What songs (that they've played more than once) if any do you think they have played for the last time in their original form, due to being a bit too technical and stamina-demanding to pull off great nowadays?

I don't see them doing Eye of the Beholder ever again, sadly. I wouldn't hold my breath for many of the Load/Reload era songs either, such as 2X4, Ain't My Bitch, Low Man's Lyric or Devil's Dance.

That might not be such a bad thing, worst song on Reload.

That might not be such a bad thing, worst song on Reload. After so many years of reading your posts I can never tell whether you mean it or not. I initially, back i the day, assumed it was a persona you were modeling. But you would have surely aged and decided to stop such assinie posts as you grew older. But now I think it's actually just you. Fixxxer is worse than Attitude? Ok.

RTL should retire. Haven't seen a decent performance of it in a long time. Vocals are out of James' range these days, and the middle part turns into a cluster fuck every time.

Unless they decide to play the albums in their entirety, half of the songs on Load and Reload will never be played again. Reload is stuck in a Fuel/Memory loop which absolutely sucks. But at least we got Until It Sleeps not too long ago.

I'll gladly take even a half-assed RTL over most of the default setlist. Also, the more Load/Reload the better. There's some real gems there.

I don't think we'll ever see any of these off the first five ever again Escape Trapped Under Ice Disposable Heroes ...and Justice For All Eye Of The Beholder
Frayed Ends of Sanity Dyers Eve Don't Tread On Me My Friend Of Misery Struggle Within The Load/Reload/Garage Inc/St. Anger/DM stuff they might break out when the boxsets get released, but it remains to be seen. The current tour is locked in as a Greatest Hits + 72S, with all the potential rarities like Sleeps and Leper all but fully explored and the songs now determined and locked in. Maybe an Asia/Australia tour will see some different songs but I don't count on it at this point.

Maybe wishful, but would like to see Trapped under Ice get another run, not too much effort required to get that one sorted for the stage.

Escape Trapped Under Ice Disposable Heroes ...and Justice For All Eye Of The Beholder
Frayed Ends of Sanity Dyers Eve Don't Tread On Me My Friend Of Misery Struggle Within Agreed on some of these, but I'm still a little more optimistic about the next few years. I agree about all of the Justice songs the most, I think that album is pretty much written off outside of One and Harvey. Even Blackened I'd bet as the first "staple" to get retired.
But Trapped Under Ice was somehow a staple in 2022, so they still have surprises in them. I can see them doing RTL and TBA live in full again too. Way more so than KEA, MOP, and AJFA. And I want to believe there's a world where I can still see Disposable live.
I think Fixxxer at the 40th show was a one off, unless James wants to have some vocal redemption on it one day.

I think because they've done the Black Album anniversary twice already they won't do it again, and Ride is all but done too. I think there's a chance they'll do Kill 'Em All and/or Puppets one more time, because the bulk of their own nostalgia seems to be based on both of those eras. Justice is always the afterthought, but I have an odd suspicion/hope they'll break out To Live Is To Die (and S&R) in the instrumental slot if they keep that in the mix for the remainder of the 72S tour.

You could be right there...Trapped seems to fall into that same category as a song like Holier Than Thou. One of those gets ripped out a bunch of times randomly over 6-7 shows every few years. IMO it's a pretty average song aside from that middle riff...and just like Holier, Het's live vocals don't really sound great on this one. Disposable on the other hand always sounds fucking awesome vocally live...yet we rarely see that one.

They played 7/8ths of Ride at the 2022 Metalforce tribute show, it's in the realm of possibility for them to pull it out. Older, less traveling Metallica could get a lot of miles out of 3-4 shows in a city where each night is an album front to back + greatest hits, which is why I'm not writing off a lot of 80s songs yet. A tour where they play KEA, RTL, and MOP across a week in Vegas, LA, NYC, and a couple more cities would probably gross them about as much money as the M72 US leg did.
Such a shame TLITD and S&R weren't rotated in last year.

I have a feeling that the success of U2s run at the Sphere in Las Vegas has Metallica's management creaming their panties at the potential financial goldmine in that. The whole 360 visuals with a Metallica twist would be awesome and redeem them for this god awful in the round setup ATM.
2 shows a week in one location for a few months would really bring in in the fans and cash.

I was also thinking that Metallica in the Las Vegas Sphere would be great the other day, definitely worth buying a ticket if you're close to the venue.

The moment The Sphere was unveiled I said whenever Metallica plays will be the first time I go to Vegas. I could see them doing an “eras” sort of show a la Taylor Swift.

I turned on Cure for the first time in awhile, and cannot picture older Het playing this live. Those intro vocals are silly.
