I have been revisiting "3" lately and it blows my mind. LTE has a brilliant jam vibe that is lacking in the recent Dream Theater albums. The musicianship is top notch, as expected. But the more you listen, the more you notice the amazing details that make you revisit over and over again.
These kind of albums are not easy to digest. They realize their value in the long run. Very rewarding.
For example, the middle section in this song is just brilliant. Technical yet very groovy.

Liquid Tension Experiment is definitely one of the bands of all time. A strange coincidence...while I was listening to it, I thought to myself that it's kind of a luck that Portnoy left Dream Theater so this gave the boys a reason to do the LTE again. Then on the very same day, Mike Portnoy joined back to Dream Theater. Ironic. Well, this is big news for sure but I think this may also mean that LTE tours and albums will not happen in the near future. Tony Levin is 77 too. So I guess there goes my hope for another LTE album unless they already have some stuff recorded somewhere. Havin said that these guys are machine like professionals. They are famous for creating amazingly detailed top class work in very short periods. On a side note, I love Mangini and his work with DT has been unbelievable (often overlooked due to mixing, though). But MP brings the rock'n roll soul that is kind of lacking under the influence of Rudess. I am curious for the next DT album.
