If and when we get a new album, and the AI advances, those "leaks" before the release will be very hard to tell if real or fake. Waiting for some kid to put out some songs he wrote with James singing over top and labeling it as "Unreleased Material From the Vault" And here we are... Not bad.

Like wtf? Listen to this shit. The vocals are what sell it but if you're impatient skip to the 4:00 mark when the song kicks into familiar territory with a cool harmony part.

Wtaf? It even has the HW/72S sound. Someday, we won't even need to use DAW at all. It'd only take seconds with just a prompt. It's scary as fuck.

Maybe it's just me but I think the vocals sounds like shit.

Both those tracks could easily be on a Beyond 72 Seasons type bonus disc. The vocals are pretty standard looking at anything from St Anger and forward from there.

The second I hear/read "AI was used", I immediately eliminate that music from even being considered to being listened to by me. Life is fake enough, I don't need it in one of the few things I find comfort in.

I love this era of fake AI stuff, it's like living in a dream where you're at a Metallica concert and they're playing all these songs you never heard before. "AI is the future, Metallica's the past" LoL I get why some of you hate this stuff, but I still think it's pretty cool and looking forward to how much it evolves in the next few years. Just look at the first few posts in this thread from a year ago and you can hear the massive progress made with the tools used. If you showed any of us this kind of stuff a few years ago... wow, just wow.

Telling a machine what you want to hear and having that box do all the work is not music. Everyone has to do their own thing. If you can accept a machine with no soul producing your music, rock on. I can't and won't. Edit: What would you go to a concert for? To watch the computer spit out the music? Watch people lip sync to the computer? People nearly lynched Milli Vanilli for that, And don't get me started on Holo-Dio.

We'll be at the AI artist point soon, there's already social media influencers who are AI.
Most of these tracks are written by some kid in his basement who records all the parts, then sings his vocal track. Then they'll put their vocal track through an AI filter which transforms the vocal track into whomever. The instruments are put through "Black album sound" etc filters as well. So the only thing The AI is doing with these is putting an audio mask over the original guys vocals.

In this scenario the original lyrics are written by some guy in a basement, but he can't actually play so his "music" is made by a box. That's a million times worse than auto tune.

?
Can obviously play if all the guitars and stuff are played by the creator and written and arranged by the guy. They still have to sing a vocal track, then they just run the voice filter like you would a delay or distortion effect.
I could record a full demo of one of my songs, run it through some AI filters, and bam it sounds like it was performed by Metallica in one of the eras. That's pretty cool and still takes alot of skills, time and dedication. And on top of that, some of these guys will attempt to sync it all up with video clips, some better than others, but still, that takes a hell of alot of time and patience.

It would be interesting to hear James sing pop songs (with distorted guitars), might spice them up.

A cover band of a Metallica era is one thing, that takes time and practice. Trying to and/or using a computer to make it more like the band is horse shit. Then you have the second part of your post. Last thing I would think Metallica would want is some youtube "artist" to sync their cover version of "Enter Sandman" with the Metallica video of the song. How long it takes them is irrelevant. If they are that good and/or determined to make music, they should make their own, then sprinkle in Metallica covers. You know, like Metallica did with bands they liked back in the day and still does from time to time.

If someone is trying to sell or make money of these silly things, yeah fuck em, but this is hobby and an expression of creativity in its own way. You might not like it or agree with the direction, but it's no different than if an art student made their own version of a Picasso, a replication of a classic one but with their own twist, only through a digital medium. Maybe by screwing around with this tech some kid might find the inspiration to move forward from that point and create something unique to his own.

Valid points.
I would say it's already a slippery slope that for too little is being done to define and limit.

The system will adapt. Half the videos in this thread have been removed from YouTube due to copyright laws, at first it was open game until it picked up. Deepfake porn is met with some pretty crazy consequences, same with having a deepfake of someone endorsing something.
Imagine in a few years that you see a cover band and you put in augmented reality glasses and all of a sudden your watching Metallica play in a small bar and sounds like the real thing. That's crazy, but also pretty cool.
