Jason sits down with Dean Delray for a nearly 2 hour interview.
Some tid bits -Jason now resides in Florida.
-He's rehearsing with his "Newsted" bandmates Jesus and Jessie for 2 live shows. They will play old songs as well as a bunch of new stuff. He says crowd reception for the shows will determine if he brings "Newsted" back for another record/tour cycle.
-Of the other Metallica members, Jason still keeps in regular contact with Lars. (Jason developed a love of art after his injury when he was unable to play much music. It appears this love of art helped foster a post-Metallica friendship with Lars.)

He talks so much crap it's unbelievable, worse than Rob and Kirk combined.

I'm more interested in peoples thoughts on Kirks So What interview.
Wrecked? Developing some ailment / illness? Sad? Just Kirk and age?
I'm certainly not having a go, but was a little caught out by what I saw and I felt for him.
I was chuffed to hear how much he and James help(ed) each other...and wonder how similar James feels compared to Kirks take.
Sorry, should have started a separate thread.....I almost did last night after watching, but got busy.

I hope so, but its quite a change from only a couple of years ago.

Jason's looking extra sleazy these days. I'm expecting a "David Ellefson" situation in the not too distant future.

In my opinion Kirk has either recently suffered a significant health event that has had negative cognitive consequences (eg a stroke), and/or he’s well and truely entered that “old rockstar fucked up from years of drug abuse” phase where he’s functioning but just permanently on another planet than the rest of us. Reminds of the first time I saw Ozzy in an episode of The Osbournes.
Jason is still Jason, the Metallica equivalent of a corporate LinkedIn post. Talks so much without saying anything, just fluffy meaningless BS.

Jason being "all for the fans" is a weird pedestal to still be on when he's vaguely throwing away the threat of "come to my one Florida show or else I'll just up and quit again".
That being said I'm excited for any new material he puts out. The full LP had a lot of filler on it but his original Metal EP was a stacked release. Not surprising he kept that up on Spotify but pulled the album.

I think Kirk is fine in general, I just think like yepsure said, the years of partying and drugs caught up to him and we're just seeing the effects. When you see him fucking up (even more) on stage and forgetting riffs and notes is when you really need to start worrying. I don't see that yet.
That reminds me of the part in SKOM where Bob Rock (I think?) says to the guys that when he quit he fully expected for the band to implode and when it didn't it pissed him off. I still think some remnant of that attitude is still in him and the "come to my show or else I'll just quit again" seems to just reinforce that. I always look at that Black Album unboxing video and just looking at his body language, a part of him looks like he is genuinely excited to do it and the other part of him looks like he hates it.
That's my arm chair psychology opinion.

Dude thinks he can just buy his fame a status now a days. Realizing that the band moved on without him, with much success, must sting deeply. He will forever be known as Jason Newstead-former Metallica bass player, and that will stay with him forever. No matter the project or interview etc. And he'll tell everyone and himself that it was the right thing to do, but realizing that no matter how much money or connections he's throws at a project, it will never come close to TBA era success which has moved on without him must be like a kick to the dick every day.

I am always surprised to see that the expectation for achieving huge success after such departure is like going on the road for wrong reasons. Certainly Echobrain couldn't be that financially super successful band to begin with. Artistic reasons - if not financial disputes within the group as in Megadeth and Slayer - should be enough to take that kind of a decision. To say no to what Metallica (or Iron Maiden for that matter) can bring financially is a big statement on your own artistic decisions. Isn't it?

I’ll have to go back and look at the So What interview, but in the recent interview with Zane Lowe (which I highly recommend) I don’t think he seemed so bad there. Something was even more off for the So What interview.

Something was even more off for the So What interview. He was still pretty out there. Randomly talking about how they’d be writing heavy poetry if they were alive 100 years ago. And at one point they were talking about something different and Kirk jumps in out of no where and says “but I’m still just so dedicated to music” or something. And every time he speaks now he sounds on the verge of tears… plus the bright white new fake teeth just make the whole delivery seem even more bizarre. I’m not trying to hate the guy or anything, it’s just really sad to see his transformation and deterioration .

That Newsted Listen to Metal nonsense was corny as hell, he should just join a band as a bassist, his writing skills are pretty mediocre.
