I'm seeing the boyz in August at Sofi in LA this summer. This will be my fifth Metallica concert and my first watching from the floor. It's been my dream to be all the way in front on the rail. Given I have the Frantic Early Access Pass and given how big the stage is, I might have a shot. Has anyone on here done it? How early would you say I have to get there? Even if you haven't ridden the rail before, how early would you get there? Just trying to get an idea!

I’ve probably been front row… mmm maybe 40 or 45 times to Metallica. It’s by far the best place to be, making eye contact with the boys is just a really cool feeling. Oh, and there’s a bigger chance of getting stuff like a drum stick or picks.
Just kinda need to run down when the gates open and keep your place. It can be quite tricky if there’s like 3 opening acts or something like that.
Snake pit passes or front center ticks are usually the way to go. This new stage is massive though so there should be plenty of potential for a good spot.

> Get in as early as possible.
> Find a rail spot as close to a mic stand as possible if you can't be directly infront of one.
> Make sure to have a buddy with you. If you don't, find the closest loner to you and make friends fast. You might be able to take turns going on beer runs or to take a piss without losing your spot.
> There is no shame in wearing an adult diaper, astronauts and racecar drivers do it all the time.
> Keep a ziplock bag on you to put your phone and anything else you can't get wet into it. There may not be water cannons on this tour, but there is always a drunk guy trying to carry way too many beers over his head ready to crash into you.
> If you have steel toe boots, wear them, save your toes.
> Aim for a dip on the stage so if the guys are over on the other side you can still see them walking around.

Thanks for the tips, guys! I'm super excited. Adult diaper may have to be the way to go haha! The two things I'm most concerned about is going to the bathroom and going on beer runs. I feel like I'd lose my spot if I move at all, even if I have a buddy there with me to "save" the spot but you guys might be able to tell me otherwise.
Are there people usually waiting in line before the gates open?

Yeah, you'll never get your spot back if you leave. Sometimes you can't even leave if you wanted to.

I usually study their movements on video on the shows prior to the ones I’m attending. The guys are habitual animals and will often have preferred spots on the stage.
But yeah, look for a mic stand or a wah pedal if you wanna watch Kirk shred.

Each of them have their own little table break spot right on the edge of the stage. That could also be a cool spot to hang out at. I'm sure by the end of the show you will have had enormous opportunity to interact with them each time the go down their for a moment. The clips I've seen of Kirk and James there were cool.

Hopefully I nail it on the first night so the second night can be more laid back.

They are actually normally pretty well choreography and have been for years. They often start the same songs on the same locations. Which is why sometimes Rob or Kirk is running somewhere really fast after a song is ended . I’ve always found that a little amusing because they are clearly not paying too much attention to where that are at the end of a song versus where they are gonna start the next song. Which I like.

I'm seriously considering it these days just by the amount of times I need to pee during shows, and that's if I'm being good with the beers. If I drank as much as I really wanted to, I'd spend the whole 2 hours in the bathroom.

Mental note: Never squeeze into a packed Met crowd ever again.
