Until it Sleeps, what a song, still remember when the single was released, so good. I remember the radio debut. James and Jason were in Australia in the studio and they took some calls. James did not like the feedback from the callers that were expecting a heavier sound pre-TBA. I thought it was a great song from that first listen, loved the vibe, lyrics and Lars' little snare rolls.

This is interesting, did they do any other songs from this show?

My first impression of Sleeps way back when was that it was awesome, but the clean guitar melody was straight up Salt n Pepper's Push It.

From memory, this was the only Load-era song played. I'm sure they played a few older tracks with chitchat between. The whole interview is prob on an old C90 tape in the back of a wardrobe somewhere.

Eh, I have no problem with people underrating stuff with wild fluctuations in quality, regardless of my own personal opinion.

I'm seeing Load grouped with the first 5 albums more and more lately in posts across the internet. I think that "thing" is happening to it that happens to a lot of good albums with a stylistic change. Glad to see its getting more and more love.

Load to me has about 3/4 filler songs. When I say filler it’s not necessary songs I don’t like, but I think the album would have been stronger as a whole without them. Black has 2 or 3 fillers but Load has two more songs overall so it’s hard to say which is the most consistent album.
Black is the superior album though, by a pretty big margin too.

The usual suspects!!
I think the only one that I would consider cutting would be Poor Twisted Me.... and even at that, depending on my mood, I would fight for that. :D

These comments are making me want to losten to Load in full. I am hanging out til the boxset is released to do that. Really looking forward to this one. If the Black album set can make me fall back in love with Sad but True, the Load box is gonna blow the mind.

I could see that argument being made. I like Cure so I would disagree but it's certainly not in the top half of the album in terms of greatness. If the Black album set can make me fall back in love with Sad but True, the Load box is gonna blow the mind. Might be a while for that box but I also cannot wait for it. I'm already considering taking a day or two off work when it's released to just immerse myself in it.

What if Load and Reload were combined as one album?

What if Load and Reload were combined as one album? It would be a Top 3 Metallica album. Maybe even Top 2. Nothing is beating Hardwired though.
My "filler" songs for Load are, well yeah, Cure and Poor Twisted Me. Mind you, I like them more than for example Bleeding Me or The Outlaw Torn, but they definitely have more of a "thrown together to fill the rest of the album" feel.
On Reload I get the same feel from Better Than You and Attitude.
Black Album has no filler. They're not all killers either, but I can't really say any of them have that filler feel. And come on now, who said Holier Than Thou is a filler? That's a straight up banger, one of the best songs on the album! But yeah, returning to that Load/Reload combination. I know it's been discussed in the past, but it's been a while. They have 27 songs altogether, so I'm saying 14 on the combination. I'm going with this track list:
1. Ain't My Bitch
2. Fuel 3. 2 X 4 4. Devil's Dance 5. Until It Sleeps 6. King Nothing 7. The Unforgiven II 8. Wasting My Hate 9. Carpe Diem Baby 10. Mama Said 11. Where the Wild Things Are 12. Ronnie 13. Low Man's Lyric
14. Fixxxer
Yeah, I'm leaving out The Memory Remains. I was debating between it and The Unforgiven II, but I like the latter a bit more, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I'm noticing that the album ends on a bit of a slower, moodier note... But actually Load does that, too. The last faster song on it is Wasting My Hate, after which there's four of the moodier ones. Reload has Attitude as the penultimate song, but as I stated earlier I'm not a fan of it. And I tried to follow the track order of the albums as best I could.

Holier is one of the best songs on the album for me. Struggle has a great solo And I dont mind Tread either
Some of this is due to burn out on the live favourites / singles.

Load fillers* Cure Poor Twisted Me Thorn Within Black fillers Holier Thread Struggle *A filler isn’t necessarily a bad song, it’s just way below the other shit in quality Load chat is always a lure I know what you mean by "filler" in this case. I agree, there are no shit songs on the album, just songs that I like less that others but are still decent. Thorn Within is an interesting one os, for me, it is a tale of two halves. The lyrics on that track are superb; they really dig into Hetfield's psyche and his baggage with life in a way that (whilst in keeping with the new 'look inward' lyrics across the record) seem to be far more honest and open than most. The music, however, is not the greatest. There are some good chuggy bits and I love the spares way the verses is but.. I guess it feels a bit bland. So I get it, but also I don't! I am surprised to see Struggle listed by a bunch of fols as filler. I love that track. Holier and Tread I agree with.

Thorn Within sounds too much like STP and Danzig. I don't understand how that made it past the conversation of which songs to move forward with. It had to have been brought up at some point. The STP and Danzig songs were not little obscure songs no one had ever heard before, they were both quite popular. And management didn't say hey guys...
I like the song, it sits well near the end of the album, but it seems like it could be removed and wouldn't take anything away from Load.
Struggle has an amazing intro, solo, and bridge, but everything else is a bit weak, especially the chorus. Feels like they needed a fast track to close the album with, found some kick ass parts from the riff tapes, filled the gaps with C and B list parts, and threw it together in an hour or two like Hardwired.

Thorn Within is a hidden gem on Load, in a similar way to Carpe Diem on Reload.
