Anyone going to the Metallica Live in Cinemas screenings? Honestly it seems like a chore to go to the theatre twice for this. I guess it’s good for those who won’t get to see the tour in person though. metallica.film/Absolutely. I saw Roger Waters show at cinema last week....was amazing. Just hoping the give Metallica a bit more volume

Album release party was awesome, beers and good vibes. Maybe the comfy chairs made it even better

Sounds exactly like it did in the arena…. :-/ Well, that's a bummer... At the beginning I was hoping they would eventually bring this stage to South America, but now I think rather prefer their old stage configuration... And I just don't know what to say about Rob's backing vocals. They're just completely absent. In fact, his vocals were always completely absent, as so as Kirk's. I'm at the point of wishing that Metallica could start using pre-recorded backing vocals, or hire a propper auxiliary singer to do them live.

I'm pretty sure this weekend is the only non-circle stage show of the tour, at Donnington.

They already use pre recorded vocals. Robs backing on 72 seasons.
J/k but really it’s still a mystery to me, that exact part sounded perfect in Hamburg…. Everything else was either completely inaudible or his usual delivery where he kind of muffles half the words then looks down on his bass before finishing the sentence
Doesn’t… Make… Sense…

I was checking out the upcoming dates. We have this weekend, then there's 2 more cities before they come here to Montreal. But my shows are in mid August! Puts some perspective on just how spaced out these tour dates are.

Puts some perspective on just how spaced out these tour dates are. Yeah it’s a little sad that you can’t actually “follow” the tour anymore since you just check every/every other weekend now. But exciting that my show is “3 show weekends” away now.

Haha, yeah... It'd be terrible. But man, at those moments I do miss Jason in the band. I've only had one opportunity to see Metallica with Jason, way back in 1999, and he was on fire that night. I just wish that James wouldn't have to do that whole live performance thing all alone.

Jason was 10x times better than Rob on vocals, but with that said it wasn’t anything impressive. Like at all. It’s not like they harmonised well together, their voices actually sounded like shit when they tried to.
When I was a kid I thought Jason’s backing vox were the most badass thing ever. But when I joined a Metallica cover band when I was around 19, I started doing back up vocals and honestly it didn’t sound that much worse than what Jason did. 90 % of what he did was straight up growling, I imagine most people would be able to do that, it’s all about letting loose.
It’s baffling that Rob sound so bad after 20 years in the band.

If I get lucky enough to see Leper and Sleepz in MetLife, these shows will instantly be worth it.

I agree that Jason was far from what someone could call a proper vocalist, but he always delivered live, both vocal and performance wise, and the band sounded more powerful with him. The fact that Rob is so bad at something so simple (you've said yourself, it's just growling and yelling at the end of the day) after so many years... And in a band which live performances played always such a big part in it's history... Well, it's just beyond me.

Someone needs to give give Lars a head mounted mic and let him take over the backup vocals. Dude could kill it. Much better option than Kirk or Rob. Although he'd probably talk over every song eventually while playing.

And it’s not like Paul or Richard can sing. Rob and Kirk should be able to do that with ease. But no.

They already have Avi fill in for charity and acoustic gigs, would it really be that unspeakable and un-Metallica if he (or someone else who is consistently available since Avi's in a band of his own) appeared as a support/fill-in vocalist for a handful of songs like Until It Sleeps that need it? In a way, I guess, but I don't think it'd be the end of Metallica if they recognized an obvious sore spot in the live experience and sought ways to fix that.

They've reached the age where they might be taking some shortcuts live, and I'd rather see that done via additional performers or changing the format of shows a little bit, versus a bunch of intro tapes and (hopefully not) backing tracks.

Lars just posted a picture from soundcheck, and it looks like they've been doing one for every show. IIRC they used to just soundcheck at the first show of the tour and then just line-checked everything for every other show. I'd love a behind the scenes tech rundown of this tour, because it's obviously waaay more involved than anything in the past. Dan mentioned on the official forums that it took them a few weeks to get the mix for the first weekend together because of how many more tracks they had between the four drum kits and everything else probably going on.

So I went to both of the Gothenburg shows this weekend. The last time I saw them (Also Gothenburg, in 2019) I had won snake pit tickets, so I knew that these shows obviously would be a really different experience compared to that (amazing) experience.
NIGHT 1:
I had hoped I would feel a lot more hyped up than I did before the first show, but for some reason that wasn't quite happening. Then I was thinking that I at least would feel that adrenaline when I was actually in the arena or at the latest when Metallica started. I got there in the end, but for about the first half of the show I wasn't really feeling it as much as I wanted to/had hoped for, even though I managed to get to the barrier and everything. The main reason for that was probably because of how they started the show at the other side from where I was standing, so for the first half (8 songs, 4 on each half of the side opposite from me) they were mostly far away, with their backs turned to me (I at least was standing where the stage is at its lowest, so I could at least see them...).
In addition to that it felt like the sound wasn't that good for big parts of the show. I usually don't feel that way when I'm standing close to the stage, but yeah, maybe because of the design of this type of stage together with the stadium acoustics it didn't quite work. The opening bands actually seemed to have better sound than Metallica, which felt weird. For probably obvious reasons the other half of the show, when they were on my side and more often facing towards me was quite a lot more enjoyable and exciting for me.
Overall, I'm not really a fan of this stage. It looks really cool, but for the reasons above it didn't work as well as the more traditional type of stage. Also I feel that they would need to move around the circle quite a lot more than they did in order to make it work. Volbeat (one of the opening bands) for example moved around more than Metallica and therefor kinda made it work. I think this type of stage could work if it was quite a lot smaller though, with a smaller snake pit.
Last but not least, the setlist felt a bit so-so. There were definitely some great songs on it (The Day that never comes was a nice surprise and getting to hear Until it sleeps live was cool) but it just felt a bit all over the place for some reason, and some of the song selections were a bit boring (For example they played my least favorite from 72 Seasons).
It was a good show all in all, but not up to par with the previous shows I've seen. There really was nothing wrong with the performance of the band, so it was a shame that the other aspects affected the experience as much as it did.
It might be a bit telling that the highlight for me of the first night happened before they had even played a single note: I managed to get a high five from James when he was passing by before preparing to walk up to the stage.
NIGHT 2:
After the first night and how I felt leading up to it I was actually feeling more hyped about this second night. I think it was a good thing that I knew now largely what to expect regarding how the show was constructed and what the stage was like and so on. It also felt more exciting this time that I didn't know what songs I would get to hear (I could guess for example One and Enter Sandman though of course). I Almost got to the barrier this night (I was standing slightly behind and between two people who had barrier spots), so almost as good as the first night and pretty close to the same position.
The night started out the same was as the first: I managed to get a high five from James at the same moment as the first night. : D When they started playing the first song Whiplash I felt more excited than when they played the first song of the first night, Creeping death, even though I like Creeping death quite a lot more. Also quite early on it felt like the sound was better than the first night, so that was great.
Overall the second night was a much better experience than the first night, which made me glad. This was definitely up to par with what I expect from Metallica. Mostly thanks to a much better and more exciting setlist (No leaf clover was definitely a highlight, You must burn! was great live as I had hoped it would be and Screaming suicide proved to work really well live) and as mentioned above a better sound. I'm glad that the second night was better than the first and not the other way around. The second night gave my M72 Tour experience a very satisfying ending.

This is super cool. I will definitely be checking this out. www.sixflags.com/larondeen/linternational-des-feux/program/tribute-to-metallicaFirm: Panzera / Rozzi Fireworks The Italian firm Panzera and the American firm Rozzi Fireworks will present a tribute to Metallica. You will be transported through the universe of Metallica by the sound of their greatest hits. Panzera / Rozzi Fireworks This is the fourth time that these two firms have collaborated for the opening or closing of the Internationnal des feux Loto-Québec. Rozzi Fireworks will participate in the competition in July 2023. Panzera S.A.S. is a family business founded at the beginning of the 20th century in northern Italy. The firm produced the first pyromusical fireworks in competition in 1985 and subsequently signed the out-of-competition closing fireworks and some commemorative opening fireworks. In 2023, the firm will be back for the 35th time at L’international des Feux Loto-Québec. The fireworks start at 10:00 p.m., rain or shine.

Does anyone want to trade tickets? I have 2 lower bowl tickets for both nights in NYC. I want to trade my 2 tickets for one night for 2 GA tickets for one night. My surgically repaired knee won't let me mosh for 2 nights. I will pay the difference. Thanks!
