Het seems to be playing some new Black and Yellow V with "72" on it
Interesting that they played Lux and SS back to back, they are both very similar and NWOBH sounding, I would have thought they'd split them up in the set or across the two nights.

Well that was a cool opening show for the tour. Lots of "constructive feedback" going on from folks who were there. Inaudible Kirk, stage too big, can't see fuck all from the floor most of the show etc. I'm glad my dates are mid August, those sound and cuing issues will be sorted by then hopefully, and the Metallica machine will be well oiled and running at full throttle

That stage is daunting, yeah. Which show are you going to?
I can’t decide if I want to shoot to get as close to the front as possible, or optimize the view and sound for myself. Might do one night of each.

The stage looks huge. People are saying they often could see none of the band members at all for long periods of time. I guess the guys in the band are gonna need to remain pretty active to cover that massive front row across an evening.
Even the snakepit looks way too big and has way too many people in it for my liking. Not that my opinion matters on a tour I can't attend.
Lot's of better videos out there now of the performances. The new songs sound great!

I get to see them in my backyard in Montreal August 11+13. I got the most decent, really shity seats you can imagine 😂. Couple of rows into the highest seating decks, right near the edge of the drop (and this building is falling apart 🥺) the best you could get for 115$ for two nights.
But, after seeing the set up, my cheap "looking down from the heavens" seat doesn't seem so bad today. Obviously going to enter for the snake pit contest. A night on the top deck looking down and a night from the pit would be 2 completely opposite POV, would be super cool.

I thought it was a pay your way in deal at this point (which I would def consider if I had the opportunity *salty)

No, there is still a draw for Legacy and fifth members, and they sell them as well. I'm going to the show alone, so if I won a pair of passes I'm going to have to scramble for the shitiest cheapest seat for a friend or my kid or something, just to get them in the building. If that fails I'll just find some other random loner at the venue day of and make their day.

(I was feeling confident Id score one with that Black Ticket)

Feeling some Sandman, One, Moth, Frantic, Darkness, 72S, and Shadows Follow tomorrow. I’ve tried to make a predicted setlist a couple times, but I keep tapping out around 13 songs in. I think no matter what there’s gonna be a surprise or two.

That stage is waaay to big, what the hell were they thinking. Even their normal stage with snake pit are kinda to big for their movements.
Will have to watch a few videos to see were the optimal placement is
Also - yellow drums…. That’s metal… or not

Sounds good though. WAKE ME. It’s funny how there are certain words which always sounds awesome when Hetfield sings them. Like FIREAAAH or GROOUND

That’s metal… or not Metallica's always been more of a "stand still and look cool" type of act on stage so it's strange how they just keep going bigger with the stage. It's not like they need the real estate and if anything it seems to make it harder for things like Lars getting cues from James or Kirk and James playing harmonies together. Compare to Iron Maiden, a band with at least three people darting around on stage at all times and yet they're still doing the typical arena-sized "theater" type stage. Maybe they should swap!

Lars needs a big foam finger to count in the songs to other guys half a mile away.

I had to look at the set spoilers because I’m en route to a wedding and can’t check in all night.
All I can say is holy shit.

Holy shit? I dunno. There's exactly one surprise in the setlist, but even that was spoiled by someone hearing them do a soundcheck earlier in the week. Other than that, it's nearly exactly what you'd expect, a one-to-one swap with the first night's setlist with a few oddballs thrown in to make it less obvious. I woulda been caught off-guard if the setlist structure was heavily altered for night 2, but alas.

Until It Sleeps is a big surprise. I hope it stays in rotation for a bit.
Crazy how, at least based on these two shows, DM and Hardwired share one slot...

I'm actually sort of waiting on footage of Until It Sleeps since Lars is a bit of a question mark on that one. Not least because of the ride thing, but because the dynamics of that song are incredibly delicate and overtly stiff drumming (aka Lars today) would completely ruin it.

I'm not too crazy about both nights opening with instrumentals. Feels like a really long build up that drags on. I hope this was just a way to kick off and celebrate the tour. Really hoping they start the next shows with a bit more adrenaline.

Considering these shows are almost a one-off (well, two-off I guess) until the tour's first European leg properly "starts" a few weeks from now, I wouldn't be surprised if they use some of the time in-between to tweak things like setlist composition or similar. Same goes for the gap between the last Euro show this year and the first North American one, I wouldn't be surprised if they don't do an instrumental opening for those dates under the presumption that NA stadium audiences would be less receptive to it.

Agreed. If you look at the dates, everything feels very calculated and planned out to keep the logistics side in check. It’s been cool seeing how open they’ve been to sharing behind the scenes pictures, like the drum storage container. This tour is a huge technical feat, probably their biggest so far to take on tour. The only things this intensive have been the one-offs like S&M.
The band seems really fired up and more into the music and presentation than they were for the Hardwired tour and I’m feeling that energy too as a fan. I’m thinking more surprises than we saw in 2016-2019.
And if they’re keeping the instrumental openers, fingers crossed we might see some TLITD and S&R.
