That means you had a good time 🍻 True, but I'm also horrible at rembering stuff like that. I have a buddy kinda like Lars, he can remember every gig he's ever been at, the date, the day and almost every setlist. It's insane. Yeah and he can even remember the gigs I've attended without he was there. I forgot I was at the Hamburg gigs last year :P

These bastards add a rotating cover slot to the setlist, drop it after one weekend, and then post a video reminding us.

It’s the first time he has won anything Metallica related, I’ve won quite a bit. So he called 5 min after I got my mail and he was over the moon. I don’t think he knew how to react when I told him that I won too lol. But it’s the perfect scenario for all of us. Or for 4 of us heh

Just drop some acid before the show starts. That sucks though, what the hell? I can't imagine not having a beer at a show in hand. Bet you can't smoke either, bunch of 🤬

Good lord. Oh and I just received a mail that I won pit passed for the second show, aaaaalrighty then AWESOME! My advice? Get in there before the first support act is on and grab a spot by one of the yellow "bumps". Those are by microphones. You'll never get a spot by the lower ramps as those with special tickets get early access. Set yourself a goal of a couple of photos per song but don't forget to live in the moment. You're going to be RIGHT in the middle of the music. After this past year, make sure you feel those waves right to your core. We just found out that you cannot bring beer into the pit. That’s disappointing… Huh. Weird. We were allowed all drinks in Munich.

My IPOM profile. I now have a nice even round number of 10 shows seen. www.ipom.com/cgi-bin/tour_report.pl?id=5544I think the coolest, "deep cut" songs I've seen live are No Remorse, Helpless, Trapped Under Ice, Turn the Page (these four were on the same fucking set...), Last Caress and Frayed Ends of Sanity. Oh, and I guess Jump in the Fire isn't that common either. Also, I love that I've seen I Disappear and No Leaf Clover, they are two of my Top 20 Metallica songs.

The jealousy of seeing the Frayed Ends debut is unreal.

James sounds like he's on fire from the streams. Leper Messiah was insane.

I think it's time they add Anesthesia to the setlist as a staple for awhile. Hell, give Rob a whole bass solo before it too. Or go back to when him and Kirk played snippets of songs during the early Worldwired tour. I remember they jammed I Disappear at my show, and it was infinitely cooler than a weird cover or a riff we didn't know. Agreed I loved that. There were even nuggets of new riffs. Also Kirk had some lovely clean stuff at times, much more interesting than the metal shredding. That melodic stuff from 2007-2011-ish was gold. There was one or two solos that sounded like something Slash could've come up with for the Appetite album. I had put together lots of clips of his solos (And James' riffs too) on the official forum before 72 Seasons came out. I'll see if I can look for it. PS: Kirk's Melbourne solo from 2004 was some of the best stuff he's written since the Loads.

Wow ipom.com is straight up old internet gold. It (along with this forum) Yes it it is! I do remember that site from back in 2000. Looks like it has reconverted. The good old days of Encycmet, The4HorsemenSite, AllMetallica, etc.

I was actually pleasantly surprised by the Kirk/Rob jam on the stream today. It sounded like it could’ve been a Load era song with some of Lars’s drumming and James’ vocals. Not sure if that’s been the standard, but it was way better than any of the Worldwired covers.
Also, 15 song sets are disappointing but I think they’re using the time very well. These have been some of the better Metallica setlists I can remember, especially with Litez and Leper in the rotation.

Short recap
Friday: We were fucking wasted! Way too much. 3/7 disappeared before Metallica took the stage lol 😅 Great sound, best I’ve ever heard at that particular venue. Highlights were Harvester, Shadows and Blackened. We were standing pretty close to the stage between two towers but fuck me I hate that stage so much. Honestly I couldn’t figure out were the guys were half the time, so I kinda lost interest in looking for them.
Sunday: We agreed not to drink anything buuut we ended up getting quite a few beers. With more luck than anything everybody hit the perfect tension level and we all had a blast. Highlights were Ride, King Nothing, Inamorata, Battery and Moth. Moth came as a surprise and the entire stadium loved it, we went crazy. One of the best shows of my life, mostly because we all had a blast together. Nobody was missing, too drunk, not drunk at all. It was perfect.
So the pit. It was obviously a great experience, Friday I felt quite disconnected from the band, yesterday was entirely different. It’s still pretty lame that they are so bad to utilize the stage. They are around Lars 95 % of the time, the stage/pit is simply too big. It feels weird, even in the pit, looking at their backs half the show. I much prefer their World Magnetic stage.
That said, when Lars is near by, I made sure to place us in the sweet spot between where the drumset rises up, and the stage is at its lowest, it’s pure magic. I thought I was getting to a point where it didn’t mean that much to me anymore, but when James is riffing 1 meter away, or even closer, I’m 12 years again. Fuck me it was epic. Fangirling out because James locks eyes with you at 42 years old is both a little embarrassing but also cool that it’s possible still to find those childish feelings.
The downside is the sound. We noticed right away that all the speakers were pointing away from the pit. Only a limited amount, and very small ones were pointing inwards. Dunno if that’s why, but the sound, while still acceptable was way better standing on the outside.
General thoughts. - James seemed very energetic, healthy and happy. Made me happy to see - Rob. Man I’ve always loved Rob but I’ve noticed the last few years that he seems. I don’t know how to frase it. But he doesn’t contribute to anything if you ask me. There’s almost no energy in him anymore. I think he suffers a lot in the stage setup. - Kirk played well I thought, Kirk is just Kirk - Lars is playing it more and more safe which is fine. I think he plays very well on this tour. He completely murdered Unforgiven, he basically played a different song with that beat. Bugged me a little but oh well. Other than that he seemed very energetic as well.
The 15 song set list is annoying, I’ve never felt a concert pass so quickly by. Even with 20 min of Ktulu/Inamorata in the middle.
All in all an awesome weekend and miles better than Hamburg last year.

Dunno if that’s why, but the sound, while still acceptable was way better standing on the outside. This part of the stage design is arguably worse than the visual. I accepted I wasn't going to hear shit a couple songs into the show I was close for.
Glad you had a great time brotha. James is far and away the highlight of this band right now. He's killing it.

The description of Rob surprises me. Maybe the years of not being very creative in this band has taken its toll ? What a shame if true, the guy rocked up with so much to offer
