Out of nowhere me and my buddy bought tickets to the first night show in Helsinki. Any advice where to stand on the floor? Are there any afterpartys because we dont have a hotel and we might just hang at the bars and maybe catch first shop back to Tallinn in the morning

You can find a list of events here: www.metallica.com/tour/2024-06-07-helsinki-finland.html#metallica-takeover

I've never actually seen Cliff 'Em All. That is definitely on my list.

Don't worry, they tend to change the basic format quite a bit. They might do this tour with that or something close, but I'm sure they'll do a different format on the next tour. And maybe even a longer set. Those are festival sets after all, and they are usually a little shorter.

They’re not getting any younger and it hit me when I was staring up at the man who created the soundtrack to most of my life that this is the first and perhaps the only time I am that close to make eye contact (which we did a bunch) so I made sure that when he looked my way all I could do was fist bump my heart to try and let him know what he and the music means. Anyway. I cried during Sandman because crowds at gigs united together reminds me that we can be, as a species, united for a common positive goal at least some of the time. I cried because this might be my last Metallica show. I cried because I was so fucking happy to have had this once (??) in a lifetime opportunity. I got a little teary eyed reading this bit too. Nice account.

Maybe! But I think it's cos they was a festival more than anything. But, even if they do go to 15 songs, that's still better than none, I guess. It wouldn't surprise me if the designed a sort of mini-festival that tours going forward. 4/5 support bands plus them a night. Different support bands each night. Newer bands, legacy bands etc.

It wouldn't surprise me if the designed a sort of mini-festival that tours going forward. 4/5 support bands plus them a night. Different support bands each night. Newer bands, legacy bands etc. I wouldn't mind this if they put together good line-ups and a good stage setup. I can't stand this round stage. But if they did a touring mini-festival on a normal stage in football stadiums, that'd be a fun show to see. Especially now that festivals are every weekend over the Summer in the US now. But of course my real dream is an arena run where they do WM style setlists. Even Fall 2018 was a fun tour because they were hitting all the smaller arenas in the US and EU. I guess we're due for that after Australia/South America/Asia in 2025, but I feel like arenas are behind them now.

I can't wait for a "Matrix" quality Metallica VR live boxset to come out. It's only a matter of time, maybe another 10 years or sooner until VR is at that level. With AI upgrades and stuff, I'm sure we we'll all be front row at Seattle 89, some shit club on the LA strip, or fucking Moscow.
I'm feeling A Las Vegas Sphere run will happen soon, hopefully a run Down Under for you guys there (with a normal stage).

I take back:
- it’s too long to be in the tour set - they’ll only play it at a special event - it won’t work that well live
One of the best live debuts this band has done in awhile. Bravo dudes.

So that wasnt you in the bright yellow hat in front of James ?? Sadly not, no. We got to the Pit too late to get to those lower ramp spots. But pretty happy with where we ended up.

I haven't seen footage this BTS since MetOnTour stuff. They soundchecked King Nothing, Until It Sleeps, and Dirty Window. I'm glad they're not getting rid of those this year. Kinda wish they'd go for a different St. Anger song though.

Wow absolutely stunning performance. I’m pretty blown away I must say 🤯 I hope we get that one in Denmark.
As far as I could tell everything was on point except the final solo. I’m not familiar enough but it sounded like he went of script. Which is nothing new. The rest perfect. 9/10.
And my god it’s refreshing to see them pull out songs like this on the tour instead of waiting for a sunny day 10 years from now.

I'm at Helsinki Olympic Stadium right now. Everything has been great so far. Didn't have time to visit the Fan Zone yet, but there's lots of time for that tomorrow. Metallica shirts are all the fuck around Helsinki. It's gonna be awesome!

I just got to my seat. It's a good spot, but the video screen pylons obstruct the view somewhat. Have to wait and see what this setup looks like with Metallica. But all in all, I'm not a huge fan of the centerfield stage. Traditional stage is better.
Architects sounds pretty good. Missed Mammoth WVH.

Update on Architects. It sounded good at first, but got old really fast. The vocalist is cringe, as the youth tend to say. Generic modern crap.
30 minutes until Ecstasy of Gold!

As much as the lack of setlist changes nowadays sucks, the song selection for M72 has been really good. Creep/Harvy/Leper/King to open a show in the WM days would have some pants shitting. Leper and King have gone through bouts of being rare as hell to see. I'm tuned into a Facebook stream and really enjoying it.

Not great. Got better as the show went along though. The Olympic Stadium is not ideal for rock concerts, there's a shit ton of echo and the sound seems to dissipate into the air at times. But the gig was pretty good all in all! Some nice song choices, for example Harvester, Leper, King - and especially Blackened. That one was bonkers good. I also loved Lux Æterna and Fuel. Inamorata worked surprisingly well live. Too Far Gone? did not. It sounded messy. The Rob and Kirk doodle was pointless and bad, as usual. Why do they keep doing them, I really don't know. Lars played noticeably well! He was on fire. Kirk was good, James was good. Rob seemed a bit off. Maybe he's a bit under the weather, I don't know. James, Lars and Rob are starting to look super old. Kirk not so much, other than the gray hair of course. His face is kinda youthful still. The video screen pylons are a bad, bad idea. They block visibility and the rounded screens are pointless. And as I said before, I don't love the centerfield stage. But still, I bet I'm gonna love the 2nd show on Sunday! The full setlist: Creeping Death Harvester of Sorrow Leper Messiah King Nothing Lux Æterna Too Far Gone? Fade to Black Inamorata Orion Nothing Else Matters Sad but True Blackened Fuel Seek & Destroy Master of Puppets

Glad you had a great time! Agreed on the pylons based on my experience. The whole thing is meant to look so grandiose they forgot practicality.
Also I’ve noticed Too Far Gone keeps getting sloppier live. They crushed the debut and even put it on Spotify.
