I think they said they had 10,000 riffs at one point, must have been a joke. They didn't say they were good ... True

What's strange about 72S is that i pretty much stopped listening to it only after a weeks of its release. Enjoyed spinning DM and HW years after they debuted.

Last Friday, I loaded up the vids on the Metallica YT channel from probably the last 2-3 months (since the texas cinema shows) and played them all in order to the most recent. Some pretty lame crowds (having people at close range with their phones up in your face would be reason to retire from touring for some cough cough James), but I thought the new songs did not get great crowd reaction live. Is it being unfamiliar, songs are bloated or what is it that it feels like everyone is waiting for it to be over? I was enjoying them, and I would imagine Id be pumped hearing something new at a show after so many years

I'm seeing them in May so I'll have a better position to comment on but for now... I think the enormodome idea isn't working with the in-the-round layout. It createst to much space so it looks less like a collective 'crowd' and more pockets of people. I also think gigs of this size attract fairweather fans or those who know the "hits" and therefore have no interest in seeing Screaming Suicide (though, neither do I with that specific song). I'm looking forward to seeing them and hearing some new tracks but, honestly, if they were just touring without a new album, I'd feel the same too. New tracks are cool but I'm going cos it's 'Tallica not cos the new album prompted me too.

This is likely a big part of it. Its all so spaced out. There was one song where Rob was on some moving platform going through the crowd. The camera then focussed on Lars who seemed to do a double take as he saw Rob off in the distance crowd-surfing while playing the song. Was such a weird angle, you almost had to remind yourself they are playing together. Not quite the tight-knit unit, working off each other.

Screaming Suicide might be the best song on the album.

Screaming Suicide might be the best song on the album. I don’t think I’ve seen Metallica cool off on a song like SS. They all called it “the live one” in the making of the MV, but it didn’t make it past 5 plays. It’s okay! Not one of my faves, feels like Moth Into Flame got dumbed down a little too much.

The best thing I can say about Screaming Suicide is that it's one of the songs on the album that doesn't drag. The track length is just right. And the breakdown after the solo is genuinely cool.

The dynamics of SS are much more interesting than most of the tracks on 72S. If Darkness Had a Son is good too in that regard (aside from the intro).

I still listen to the album regularly. It's not perfect but neither is HR's mom.

I listened to it for the first time in a couple months today. I still love it, but now that I'm not full bore in a Metallica phase it's a lot to get thru at once.

It's not my favourite album of theirs but i'd say my 3 favourite songs are after a break of listening to it are: Screaming Suicide If Darkness Had a Son Too Far Gone I really still don't like Lux Eterna but the rest of the songs are decent to listen to (but obviously not as good as their older stuff).

Too Far Gone is still in heavy rotation here on our rock station. It really works as a radio song.
I don't really listen to much of any Metallica since after the summer shows and hype has died. I put on Inamorata here and there, but asides from that one and Too Far Gone popping up on the radio, I forget about songs like Shadows Follow, Room of Mirrors etc unless I'm actively thinking about the album. I still love all those songs on 72, but currently burnt out on Metal music in general.
Portals still going strong though on my playlist. It's just great for background music while painting or trying to be productive.

Love to hear TFG is getting some radio play. I only heard Lux on Sirius for a little while when it came out, not much else. The Spotify stats for the album are interesting. By plays, the most to least popular are: 1. Lux Aeterna 2. Screaming Suicide 3. 72 Seasons 4. If Darkness Had a Son 5. Too Far Gone? 6. Shadows Follow 7. Sleepwalk my Life Away 8. You Must Burn 9. Inamorata 10. Crown of Barbed Wire 11. Chasing Light 12. Room of Mirrors Cool to see how organically popular Shadows and TFG are.

Would be interesting if we could see the actual numbers for each song

Yeah, when I said “organic” I really meant they didn’t get extra streams for being singles. Interesting though that 72 Seasons overtook IDHAS, and is set to overtake SS too, and it came out after both.

Room of Mirrors took the top spot as my fave song. It's the only one I regularly listen to. I think it has to do with Hetfield sounding a lot like oldschool Het vocal wise.

Room of mirrors is my least fav. May I ask why? Yes, you may. Because it all sounds a little 'stock'. It hasn't very much going on. It's still a great song but a bit boring to me.

I put it on last night during my workout and made it to Chasing Light before stopping to do other stuff. After a few months of a break, and with fresh ears, it's pretty solid. Got my blood pumping good. It still sits well for me.
