Please use logic  I can dislike a song but still love the album it's on. And I can very much be exited about a new album even though I don't like the first single. |

Hardwired summons demons from inside me, That "Once upon the planet burning" part just gets me so riled up. Not the most intelligent song, but it does the trick every time.
Lux, same level of intelligence, but with a much happier vibe. Gets me going with a big smile instead of clenched fists, ready to destroy in pit ( in my head at least, I'm old now and avoid such encounters at all costs 👩🏼🦼)
Id go with the anger over happiness though if I had to choose.

Question for y'all. Between Hardwired and Lux Æterna. Which would you prefer as a first single or first song from a new album? While I liked Hardwired, Lux Aeterna is better -- the overall sound and vibe, catchy drumming, chorus and main riff. Both videos are enjoyable, though. Both songs seem to be some spur of the moment song or afterthought once they had the basis of the album. |

When HW was released, my first thought was holy shit James sounds like MOP James but with the older voice of it when he starts singing "In the name of desperation". I was not too fond of the drum sound, too loud for me. And I HATED the chorus. "We are so fucked, shit out of luck" What? James, did you run out of ideas for lyrics? lol. The "Once upon a planet burning..." part is what hooked me up.
With Lux Æterna, my first initial thoughts were "Okay, this is catchy but I need more listen to analyze." First I listened on my TV, then on the phone, then on the PC to give a different experience each time. Great catchy track, when you listen, you want to listen again. The only negative side of it is too short. You expect more. Double bass tone is balanced and fit for the song.
If I have to compare the track: I give Hardwired a 6/10, and Lux a 7/10.

I'm just annoyed by yet another false ending, but I guess for a live performance it works, on an album, unless it's something really out there that adds closure to the song or something, it's like, ok just end the song already.

As far as the album cover goes, it's safe. Metallica do not shy from using all the skulls and stuff for merchandise etc. But I feel somewhere high up in the decision department, the choice for a more "accessable" album art choice is made for obvious marketing purposes. Can you imagine all those billboards and displays decked out with Pushead style artwork? I'd love it, but it may frighten off that middle aged mom looking to buy a gift for someone, or someone just starting to dip their toes in the water.

I’m slightly warming up to Lux… I really wish they would have done just a little bit different. All it really would take would be like
a part with half of quarter time drumming. It’s easy, effective and it would have sounded awesome behind that riff. Just to make it a little less repetitive, it’s the exact same tempo and drumbeat from start to finish. Gets boring even though it’s only 3 minutes.

I think i prefer LOS to LA. I'd agree if studio LOS was closer to the live version, than changing it for the sake of changing it. The live solo was Kirk's only well composed solo in the last 10 years, and some of the cuts are actually worse (which is ironic since Spit Out the Bone and a lot of DM could afford parts cut out). |

Anytime Metallica puts out new music is a great time to be alive!
