They're going for Diamond Head/Budgie/1982 on this and I fucking love it. DM and especially HW gave me enough modern Metallica doing thrash, I'm so excited for where they're going with this. Yeah, in terms of vibe and style I also prefer this over the modern Metallica doing whatever they did on the last two. Shame the song is not spectacular.

All I want is for a few deep and meaningful tracks in the line of Hero of the Day, Bleeding me, Until it Sleeps , Unforgiven etc. Enough with the high school crap, these are old men now, where's the sad cowboy music, the real good stuff.

I like this more than Hardwired (the song), that's for sure. I think Hardwired as a whole is an uneven album, but it has four songs I consider to be among Metallica's best: Moth Into Flame, Dream No More, Halo on Fire, and Spit Out the Bone. Lux Æterna isn't up there, but I'm hopeful we get a couple of songs that can reach that level.

If Spit had that last slow down section and repetition edited out I would hold it up there with Moth, Dream and Halo. The rest of the album has some cool moments scattered through a handful of forgettable songs, but a couple of which I rank amongst the worst the band has ever written - Hardwired and ManUNKind.
Lux Aeterna doesn’t reach the highs of Moth/Dream/Halo, but I reckon it’s better than most of the Hardwired album. I love the main riff, the verses and overall classic metal early 80s vibe. It does suffer from the shitty solo, poor opening and ending, and some generic transition riffs in it though which are all too common over the last couple of albums.

You know one thing I loved about LÆ is that after the first listen while I was at work, the tune carried on in my head a few hours after listening to it.
It's not a ground breaking song, I'm not in love with the lyrics or solo, but the song was very catchy and a step in the right direction imo.
Now can we all move on to speculating about the next track to be released? Or what the tracks may be about? Which track will be the ballad? Also, WILL THIS BE THEIR LAST ALBUM????
Maybe this will be a concept album on their lives and finish up the metallica story.
I can't wait for the new album. Just give me a couple of slower chilled out songs please though boys!

Next single will be Sleepwalk My Life Away. It will be released on Dec. 22. It will be a chill U3 style banger and Kirk will play some dreamy slide guitar parts in the main repeating hook. The video will feature a boy in a raft who at the climax of the song leaves the raft and begins to walk on the water as b role footage while the guys play on a river bank.

I really hope there's a proper ballad on this album. I think Hardwired suffered from not having one, with the closest being Halo on Fire. An instrumental would be nice too, just to mix things up.

I think I like HTSD a good bit more than you but I agree with all of this. Also I wouldn't say it's on the same level as Moth/Dream/Halo but I'd put Dead over LÆ as well.

You know what songs like Lux Aeterna suffer from? Guitar tone. It must be a classic 70s guitar tone to play stuff like that. But since HW's and the new album's guitar tones are too modern, some good songs sound generic to the ears.

But since HW's and the new album's guitar tones are too modern, some good songs sound generic to the ears. Completely agree. The guitar tone is also again very very week. Fun thing, I haven’t listened to the song since it came out, heard it maybe 3 times. Then I listened to it once this morning and now that damn riff is stuck in my head. I still don’t like the riff but it’s catchy that’s for sure. I hope the next song is more complex with more parts to dive into. Lux is so straight forward and when the musical parts are so below par it just becomes incredibly boring to listen to. The only detail I kinda like is the little double bass fill in the end of each frame.

I wonder if the title track, the first song, is a thrasher/fast-tempo tune, or if they decided to mix things up this time around and opted to have a ballad or mid-tempo song... or even an instrumental to open the record!
As for these almost 5 months until release day, I assume there's gonna be another single before X-Mas. Not sure of every song will have a video aswith HWTSD. Thye don't usually repeat themselves.

It would be cool if they made one cinematic video for the whole album, and up until release, we got a few simple live jam footage for the singles like Lux Aeterna.
I think the next release will be early to mid January, to gain hype and promo for the single day tour tickets going on sale Jan 20.

The intro of the song (Those Leper notes) reminds me of the first notes of Fucking Hostile, which makes me think they wrote it after discussing putting Pantera on the bill and then jamming after that meeting, and some was riffing on Hostile and then boom, we have an intro.

Initial thoughts. - Horrible artwork, just horrible. - After 3 run throughs it’s in the top 10 of their worst songs - Not a fan of the album title and number of songs - Tour sounds kind of exiting, will probably buy tix for the Hamburg show - Not a fan of the video, is that white Tama drums or just the light that is fucking with me ? - Again these kind of songs are probably my least favourite kind, I just don’t like anything about it. Not one thing :( It’s oozing with Lords/Lightz vibes, but a lot worse. Riffs are extremely bland, solo awful, lyrics awful, drums plain Lars, is there even one tom hit in there ? Vocals meh. Not complaining though, still very much exited I wasn't expecting this. I did not have an expectation. Metallica are old folk now. They are going to ride their fame to the sunset. I'm gonna be there with them for the ride. Glad to have lived in the era of Metallica.

Weezer is rumored to be doing a yellow album next year too. All the old bands are running out of new color schemes and are resorting to yellows and purples lol I have been waiting for the GREEN album for a while now. Neon electric Green with demons or some sht.

After an anxiety filled week, full of speculation and doubt, I fully retract all my previous bitching and grumbling. The song, while not the greatest, has grown on me, I secured a 2 night ticket, and now that the dust has settled, I'm fucking pumped. Bring it on! Full speed or nothing!

Still jamming to this song multiple times a day. It's a banger, outside of the solo. Still not feeling it. It’s stuck in my head but somehow it’s sounds better there than when I’m actually listening to it. One semi-decent riff simply cannot carry a song for me.
