I really liked some of the ideas in there. I think his effort was actually, surprisingly very good. I am looking forward to his contributions in the new album but we are 3 songs in and unfortunately we didn't get any memorable Kirk contribution just yet.

this was discussed before but I wanted to mention this again. A new album will be in our hands very soon and most of us feel like the news songs kinda lack the fresh feeling.
Kirk delivered freshness with his Portals EP.

Kirk delivered freshness with his Portals EP. I feel like Kirk and Rob are so much more comfortable and creative outside of Metallica... It's a shame really. I would much prefer James to do the solo's and Kirk just doing accents, harmonies and lead fills. And then get his creativity out in stuff like Portals. He should also team up with Rob for his next ep! |

But I also don't know if this would be as interesting for an entire EP except a couple of songs. Do you think James would be somehow intimidated by such a collaboration beyond a song or two? Kirk is actually creative. He can definately do better. |

This EP is holding up.
Listening to it right now, love that gallop in High Plains Drifter. Drums are pretty good, cant recall who that is atm.
Kirk does mention he has more to release and record at times (just recently with Beato interview).
More 4 track EP format releases would be a good way to work I think.

Haven't listened to again after it was released, it kinds sucks. |

Still holds up for me. It's actually quite amazing. Now if only someone would add some AI Hetfield vocals in them here and there LoL. Nah, I love these instrumentals, I really wish instead of a Rob and Kirk doodle of some random song, those 2 would jam a little on some of the Portals tracks.
