I'm impressed that they nailed the solo, but its just a straight up note-for-note acoustic cover. Worthy of a listen but nothing more...one of less than ~5 songs in this boxset I was interested in hearing.

This tribute project is one huge flop. I don't understand why or how this got the green light. Who is it for? The lunatics in the YouTube comments who praise these versions like they're the GOAT?
There have been 2 or 3 so far that I dig, but like really, who's going to buy this, especially after the slow drip off releases.
I just don't understand who this is marketed for? Fan of X artist isn't going to run out a grab it, and neither are the majority of the hardcore fanbase.
Had this been full of fucked up Metal, Punk, industrial, stoner rock versions, it could have been a very cool celebration of the best selling metal record of all time, instead, we get an overdose of way below average covers that make some YouTube noobs cover versions look like gold.

I just don't understand who this is marketed for?. Fans of the Metallica/the album who might be interested in hearing a different take on already familiar songs. I, personally, would be bored to tears hearing a metal band cover a metal song in a metal genre. Why would I want to hear Trivium covering Sad But True? Pointless. But an African choir covering it? Yeah, I’ll give that a listen. I think ultimately we have to remember that Metallica, at this point in their career, don’t give a shit about marketing the b(r)and to young, hip people. They do things that they think are cool or that interest them (c.f. Lulu). I don’t think this is aimed at the covering artists audience or new audience. It’s for certain fans who will lap up anything served to them. More to the point: who gives a shit? Don’t waste ones time listening to something that offers no interest. It’s something for someone but not everyone.

It's made for people who are fans of the other bands and who might discover Metallica/give Metallica a second chance because of how much they enjoyed the specific cover. Maybe not exactly by buying the box set the first thing they do, but at least by starting to listen to their music on streaming services and so on. I'd say it's an attempt (successful or not) to widen their fanbase even more.

I, personally, would be bored to tears hearing a metal band cover a metal song in a metal genre. A fair comeback. I’ll allow it. The difference is though, for me, the original songs covered on Garage Days are all weaker versions compared to the Met ones. But my point was: Sad But True can never be betters than the OG version. So why bother?

So far Volbeat has won IMO, doing a close enough to the original, but giving it its own flavor. Still waiting for Cage the Elephant and Ghost.

I love Ghost but I really wish they went with a more sinister sounding track from TBA, The God That Failed, Misery, Wolf and Man...nope, Sandman 😩

Can’t wait for the Metal-Miley colab tonight… I have to stand erected. She has outgrown Hana Montana and Wrecking Ball. This was really good and you can hear Dolly Parton in her voice.

James should sue these guys for using his lyrics. Huh, I actually thought that was one of the better covers on the album. I love jazzy, freestyling interpretations of songs.
Truth be told, I'm astonished at how close-minded most of y'all are when it comes to music. As jayc said, it would've been completely pointless and boring to have an all-metal/punk/rock covers album. Instead, we get really cool versions of familiar tunes, with genres spanning from rock to electro to jazz to soul to country and everything in between.
I've been digging the weirder and more daring interpretations the most. In addition to Kamasi Washington's "Misery", my favorites so far are Biffy Clyro's alt-rock take on "Holier", OFF's punk version of "Holier", Moses Sumney's stellar soul-tinged "Unforgiven", Jason Isbell's countrified "Sad But True", St. Vincent's industrial-ish "Sad But True", and Rina Sawayama's fun and energetic EDM/electro-rock version of "Sandman". This album has been an absolute treat and a breath of fresh air to my regular listening patterns.
Think outside the box for once, people. Get out of your comfort zone. You might actually find something fresh, new and exciting.

Yeah, no.
I'm very open minded to good music. 95 % of those versions are garbage. I was very interested in this project and excited to hear some new spins. Shiting out some scoobity beepbob sax mess while throwing some familiar lyrics overtop screams no effort to me.
Even the bands I was looking forward to hearing the most on this project fell flat IMO. Maybe I've just heard these songs too many times over the past 30 years.
The majority of these are ridiculously too far removed from the original, or just a copy past version With (insert cool persona vocals🙄)
To many fails on this one for me, and believe me, I'm open to anything, from any genre, from any time era, if it gives me the feels, And the only feels I get from 95% of these, is this is boring and lame.
