Nothing will ever beat this version of NEM. When it kicks in at 1:50ish...and the harmony bit...solo...bliss.

Have I missed something here? What's occurring? 53 pop artists are going to cover a song from the black album. So you get 13 versions of NEM, 12 of Enter the Sandman, etc Exacly what we all wanted. Come on, not only pop artists. Quite a few rock/metal artists in there as well. It's called "diversity". Look it up.

Best one I've heard so far. The slow, chugging beat of Sad But True lends itself well to synthwave.

That one is super cool. Where are these being slowly released? A specific channel? Or you just have to dig around?

The trend seems to be that when they announce one of those song-related posters 2 covers songs get released too. So if when you see the posters on their IG feed, a quick search of Metallica Blacklist on YT should sort you out.
Or hang on until it's posted here :D

I love synthwave, probably my most listened to genre of music over the last couple of years. With that said, I hate synthwave that has vocals and that Sad But True cover is no exception.
That Jason Isbell cover that BMus posted wasn't bad though, not that I have any desire to listen to it again.
I take it your guys are now committing to sift through all of it and will post anything worth listening to? Cheers

What I like about this project is that it's a good representation of what cover songs should all be about -- not copying the original but rather making it your own. That said, I won't necesarily check out all of the songs.

Once again Metallica completely exiles themselves from the Metal community. Sometimes it works but this ? Come on, 53 pop versions of their songs, what is the freaking point. Who are they targeting here, non-metal fans in hopes of getting them onboard ? It's certainly not their main base. Maybe there are a couple of cool renditions here and there, but 99 % of us will only bother listen to 1-5 songs in total. Doesn't make sense, to me.
I would love hearing some of their peers ripping through those songs.

Best one I've heard so far. The slow, chugging beat of Sad But True lends itself well to synthwave. I wouldn't categorize this as synthwave. It's more industrial and art rock to me.

When metalbands release some 'Greatest hits' they often include some dance/dubstep/electro/hip hop/synthwave/artsy fartsy remix. Those always sound like shit. And not the good kind like 'Oh my, I'm glad that one is out. What a relief'. No, the bad kind that tears your ass an extra five cm open. This is is no exception. Metal should be metal and rock should be rock.

No one can do it better than the original so a cover SHOULD be something different. Definitely a different genre. Does it mean all of them will be good? Nah. Course not. But it’s certainly more interesting than Gojira doing Struggle Within. As to who they are trying to attract? No one. This strikes me as something they want to do just cos they can. They’re not making ANY money from it. They know hardcore Metallica collectors will buy it and that will generate cash for the charities and maybe they’ll pick up some new fans who check out a cover and then the original. I’ll listen to them all just to check it out. It no different to me as if you posted a link to a mix of pop or metal or country on Spotify. Some I’ll like some I want but I more receptive to this album cos I know and love the originals so I’m interested to hear a new take on these classic tunes. tl:dr- shush Mr Grumpy Bollocks.

Some of my favorite Metallica covers come from that Bluegrass cover album and those industrial tribute albums I used to eat up back in the day, and that Christmas version album gets played around here ever time the season rolls around.
Although, the first Metal Militia tribute album with full blown death metal versions of FFWF and Motorbreath fucking caused me to break a lot of things jumping around back in the day and still get my blood pumping.
Edit: Pre internet days, finding those kind of CDs was the bomb. Now you got a bazzilion covers available at the click of a mouse so they do lose some wow factor.

BMus1 that was pretty good I usually don't like country unless it's Johnny Cash or Dolly Parton but that was a real upbeat country version of Sad But True, I liked it! ^ I like it when the strings start

I wouldn't mind hearing Gojira cover Struugle! Note for note covers are boring yes, but who says they should be note for note ? Just a personal spin on it. And just 12 different bands, not 53. Would certainly better than this shit. It's all good, it's for charity, I'm just not interested, at all.

They got a bunch of soft acts to do Metallica softly and keep Metallica looking 'hard' in comparison, in front of their fans. That seems to me what is going on here.

Metallica have ZERO to prove. Especially to their fans. Looking “hard” hasn’t been a concern for them since the 80s.

I mean, I could just keep going but, most people know better otherwise. Wrong, Metallica does have things to prove, but they don't 'have to' because they aren't starving and they are rich as shit. That's how that works. Can Metallica make a better album than their first 5? No. They can't. And they never will. Yes, they don't 'have to.' Because they have MONEY. Give them more.
