I mean, how could you go wrong with that lineup? Miley Cyrus's voice is so awesome - she's got a bit of Stevie Nicks, a bit of Janis Joplin, a bit of Sheryl Crow in there. Elton's piano and Yo-Yo'd cello are fantastic, especially in the outro. Chad Smith plays the drums with a couple of notches more groove than Ulrich. Trujillo's bass is good, kinda just there, but it's the foundation for the song, not the star. WATT's guitar is somewhat non-existent other than the solo, but I think he plays that masterfully. Not copying Hetfield note-for-note, but that's how it should be. All in all, a great cover. Really great. Can't wait for the tribute album! I haven't been this excited about anything Metallica-related in ages! Oh great, another version of Nothing Else Matters. Just what we wanted. Beautiful! I really like Miley's vocals overall although there are a few moments here where I wish she would have toned it down a bit to fit the mood a bit better. I would've loved to of heard what SIA could've done with this song. atm she's my favourite female vocalist. |

Here's my take on this project.
Will I listen to it: Sure! Can't hurt. I might well find a couple of tunes (or maybe all of them?!?) that I like and will add to the phone.
DO we need more versions of >>INSERT SONG TITLE HERE<<: Well it depends. Would I listen to a version of Sad that uses African vocal styles, Taiko drums and acoustic guitars? Yeah, of course, cos it's something new. I'm not interested in hearing, say, Machine Head cover a song (a la Battery) or Lamb Of God or Gojira or whomever. That's boring to me. If it's an artist OUTSIDE of the metal genre that is putting their own stamp/spin on it then I'll at least give it a listen. The Miley Cyrus version, for example, is ok, but it stays too close to the original structure of the song for me to find it interesting. Her vocals are awful at the beginning but get better as the song goes on. Not a fan of the shreddy guitar solo. On the other hand I really like the Juanes version of Sandman cos it's got a different vibe and feel (and performance) to the original so it's, for me, something new.
So the answer really depends on: is it a different style and interpretation to the original? If so then cool. I might like it, I might not. But I'll judge that when I hear the song.
I can see me taking may fav tracks from this album and making a my own playlist to be honest. Plus, I don't mind paying for the CD cos the money goes to charities so even if I hate ALL the songs, I can rest easy knowing that I played a small part in making something better in the world.

I could see an album with one cover per song on the record. This seems like overkill and I’d just get fatigued really quickly. I’ll check out a few of them though. Probably Corey Taylor and Volbeat.
