Just when I start to discover metal and move away from soft rock/jam bands, everyone seems to be getting mellower? I don't really care, but it's kind of strange. Also I find it kind of odd that people are actually excited for the day Metallica ends. Depresses me, because I want them to last long. I've just got into them. At least I've been to one concert, but I definitely want these guys to do as many albums as they can. I'll wait years. I just need to see them again. You said in another thread if I recall correctly you were like 13 or 14 correct? Think of it this way, most of us old people here have been waiting for a new album by them for more than half of the time you've been alive. We've been listening to mostly the same set lists that whole time. It's not that we are cheering for them to end the band. It's that most of us are just bored of them right now and tired of waiting for something that after all this time may be boring and uninspired. Yes that is correct. I understand you being tired with the wait, but I remember reading one of these posts saying that they were excited for the end of the band. I can't quote it since I'm on a reply page and can't click the quote button again, but it was spartanmcdoodle's post. I get him being excited for solo albums by James, but I don't understand why a fan on this website would look foward to the band's demise. Maybe it's one of those "you'll understand when you're older" things.

I reckon we'll hear a new song at that August gig. They've only just chosen a producer though...

They don't have many years left potentially. That's the issue.

I think he does, although I would rather have Hetfield in his face when creating solo's. I would like to hear his own ideas though

This is actually why in a way I look forward to the day they call it quits. I will be sad as it's the end of an era (also one of life's reminders that I too am growing older), but I am lucky to have seen them many times and I am confident this will be the last album anyway.
The sooner this happens the sooner we will get (I believe), a lot of solo and collaboration work from James. After seeing his performances at the acoustic for a cure show I felt this would be something that I would connect with more than anything 'metallica' releases from now. Don't get me wrong I love them but the pleasure I get from the music is not just the content but the combination of feelings and memories I get while listening to it. I don't get that anymore.
My musical tastes have mellowed a lot and I would absolutely love for James to create some more load style of songs. Low man's lyric for example. It's a fucking gem and I think he is a lot better now at writing those sorts of songs than all nightmare long fantasy style stuff. Even unforgiven III. That is a great song and way overlooked.

We've been waiting so long and have had so much misleading info from interviews i don't know what to believe anymore. I just hope it's out by the end of next year.

Us old geezers are living off the fumes of nostalgia and childhood.
One day you will still hold Metallica in your heart for those reasons, but you won't be as into them as before. That can't last forever, the initial high. You're left with nostalgia, which also tends to need to be lit again by certain things.

That can't last forever, the initial high. You're left with nostalgia, which also tends to need to be lit again by certain things. This is the truth. I can still miss those days though. I remember always wanting to be buried with my Metallica collection and I kept adding and adding over the years. I would never ever sell anything off, even if I was completely broke. Then some day it just didn't make as much sense anymore, it was not that I didn't like those things or like the band or their music more, but something had changed. I got into the mindset that I'm just keeping all this awesome stuff from someone else, who would appreciate it much more than I had come to do. So I've sold about everything, and it wasn't because I needed the money, I've only kept a few special stuff for myself.

Solo James would be awesome, he should release it after this one. I would expect a country rock metal blues fusion album.

I would wager we never see a solo Hetfield album.

I would wager we never see a solo Hetfield album. I hope you are wrong Logan, a solo James album with guests on it would be a dream come true. Oh, but Rob can be the bass player on it, I just think its time for Kirk and Lars to go off somewhere and do somthing non-musical. They had their day, and its time for them to throw in the towel.

Any news on the possibility of a double album? James said they had 20 songs.

No no no, they're gonna do "Lords/Loads Medley" which combines Lords of Summer, Poor Twisted Me, Better Than You, and the "SEE YOU CRRRRAAAAWWLING" parts of Slither into a 15 minute medley that becomes a hit single and is everywhere on the radio, and becomes a live staple.

Why would James not do solo stuff? I can easily see him making music in his 60's when Metallica isn't as active. Not a crazy amount of output just one album. He writes and does his parts and then he can get pretty much anyone he wants to play certain instruments and produce.

I don't see James doing a solo album either. Not at this point. Maybe not right now, but if Metallica calls it a quits after the next album, I don't see James stop making music all together. I think he would do a collaboration album of some sorts, that would be pretty cool too
