I find it highly disturbing that people can get so much debate from a Kirk interview.... It's KIRK ? I haven't taken anything seriously from him in 13 years. He probably haven't got a clue and he is probably as tired of answering these questions as we are of reading his answers.

They clearly love playing live and it feels like they love writing riffs too but that the actual songwriting process is more of a chore than anything else (because of the other things/responsibilities they have to prioritize) up until it's done, the music is released and ready to be played live.

I think it's the recording process that they dislike, I reckon Hetfield could pick up an acoustic and write a song in 30 minutes.
Just imagine all the songs Het has written that we'll never hear.

They would top most Metallica stuff too I'm sure. I'd actually take a Hetfield acoustic solo album over a new Metallica album.

I'd even take a acoustic cover album vs a new group effort. Stuff like this makes me sad that it isn't recorded properly. Even this is pretty good

These guys don't live in the reality we know, and that can be a bad thing. Can you imagine the levels of yes-men around them? What bothers me a little is when they talk about family commitments etc, it now comes across as if they aren't aware other people produce / work / create with the same issues and commitments. Like its harder for them or something. The other issue I think that occurs come album time is this standard they set themselves. Too concerned about damaging their legacy maybe or brand, though some will argue that has happened several times already, but they were obviously happy with each release before giving it the go ahead. I don't know, after hearing comments about how drawn out the DM sessions were, how Lulu was not, how they want the next one to be less laboured over and more organic, etc etc what I think is happening is exactly the opposite. And that generally comes from doubt. DUN DUN DUUUN!

This is actually why in a way I look forward to the day they call it quits. I will be sad as it's the end of an era (also one of life's reminders that I too am growing older), but I am lucky to have seen them many times and I am confident this will be the last album anyway. The sooner this happens the sooner we will get (I believe), a lot of solo and collaboration work from James. After seeing his performances at the acoustic for a cure show I felt this would be something that I would connect with more than anything 'metallica' releases from now. Don't get me wrong I love them but the pleasure I get from the music is not just the content but the combination of feelings and memories I get while listening to it. I don't get that anymore. My musical tastes have mellowed a lot and I would absolutely love for James to create some more load style of songs. Low man's lyric for example. It's a fucking gem and I think he is a lot better now at writing those sorts of songs than all nightmare long fantasy style stuff. Even unforgiven III. That is a great song and way overlooked.

Exactly how I feel too. I would connect a lot more with some acoustic solo Hetfield. That said, I enjoyed the hell out of Dm and I'm sure a new Metallica album would make me feel like a kid again.

How long do you think it will take for speculation to start as to why they are using an old logo on that poster?!

<_<
Face it guys. They're using an old logo to tell us they haven't started writing the *new* album yet.
Plus they just hired Greg to produce. They've just started writing demoes.
The back half of 2016 will be busy for writing.
New album 2020. Trust me guys.

James would tell himself that he can't do side projects while in Metallica because the Metallica Machine is #1 priority. He'll get pissed being controlled by himself and eventually leave the focking band. Hold on a sec...

Although they have no tour dates on the books as of right now, Lars Ulrich tells Rolling Stone that will change once they get past one big hurdle."I think it will be a pretty in-your-face year, at least the back half of it," the drummer says. "Obviously, we've gotta finish the new record now. But thankfully we're quite far along. Hopefully we should be able to knock that on the head this spring, I would guess. So we will be gearing up and playing shows and doing all that fun stuff again soon." Read more: www.rollingstone.com/music/news/metallica-tease-in-your-face-year-20160310#ixzz435VlqpKw So they're not gonna book dates until the album is finished. So the album will be finished by August. Possibly released in September.

I agree. Though there is the possibility that they just wanted to be the first band to play the new venue and said fuck it, book it, regardless of album progress.

It's at the end of August. That's FIVE months from now.
Well into summer and pushing Autumn.
Considering Lars says that the album should be done by Spring - I'd say a new song is possible.

Is that a football in the gig poster? Another sports show? Yes it's a hand egg. It's a concert "kicking off" the new football stadium in Minnesota.

Just when I start to discover metal and move away from soft rock/jam bands, everyone seems to be getting mellower? I don't really care, but it's kind of strange. Also I find it kind of odd that people are actually excited for the day Metallica ends. Depresses me, because I want them to last long. I've just got into them. At least I've been to one concert, but I definitely want these guys to do as many albums as they can. I'll wait years. I just need to see them again.

You said in another thread if I recall correctly you were like 13 or 14 correct? Think of it this way, most of us old people here have been waiting for a new album by them for more than half of the time you've been alive. We've been listening to mostly the same set lists that whole time. It's not that we are cheering for them to end the band. It's that most of us are just bored of them right now and tired of waiting for something that after all this time may be boring and uninspired.
