It's crazy to remember what you were doing 8 years ago when Metallica last put out a Metallica Studio Album Of Original Material. Not including Lulu which is a collaboration. I've moved countries TWICE. I was in my 5th and final year of high school when Death Magnetic came out.

Weird that he says " we've tapped Fidelman to produce our next album ".
Um...yeah....He's been in the studio with you for about a year. And the album is nearly finished.
Not really news. As usual - Kirk minces his words entirely. makes it sound like they haven't started yet.

This means that Fidelman has only just started producing, he has been helping them record the demos over the past year.

*sips cocktail* I'd pay to see that! You are not old enough for cocktails, young man That's a reference to the book Challenger Deep. The character was talking about people jumping off the crows next and dying. "You never seem them splat." *sips cocktail* "I'd pay to see that!".

I want to ask you thornwithin: Is your signature a reference to something? Yes it is. It is a reference to the Nirvana song Mr. Mustache, which makes fun of the average "macho man" from the Deep South.

I wish it was Bob Rock. Then the album might actually sound decent.

In all seriousness the more interviews that come out the more nervous I get, especially this one. I know Kirk usually has no clue what he is talking about but the whole "he doesn't piss anyone off" thing or whatever he said combined with Lars saying there are no short songs scares me. That means (in my eyes) that the band is going to be pretty much in full control with not a lot input from a producer which is the exact opposite of what they need to be doing right now. If LoS is even close to making the album as Lars suggested I fear we are in for a cluster fuck of riffs put together with no real purpose in eight minute long songs that have cool parts, but just are too long for their own good.
Add the eight years it has taken them to get another album out, which I'm assuming is because they were not inspired to sit down and get it done and it just makes this whole thing scream boring and uninspired. I REALLY hope I'm wrong because the boys have been in a weird bubble lately of vibes and fuck knows what else. When I read their interviews I feel like I'm reading an interview with a monk or some hippie from San Fransisco during the 60's.
I just feel like they needed a producer that is no bullshit and tells them when something sucks now more than ever. I don't want them going out with some uninspired bore fest. (It is entirely possible that this is their last album, unless they suddenly get a fire under their asses and start pumping out new material.)

I get the impression that Kirk has nothing to do with the new album.
Liner notes: All songs written and recorded by Hetfield/Ulrich after the untimely loss of Kirk's phone.
I mean, that's the only logical explanation for his confusing interview comments, right?

A lot of that sounds distinctly underwhelming. I mean... Now, I know as much about creating great albums as a pig knows about a shirt, but surely at some stage in that process a band needs to just fucking focus and put in a concerted effort, even if it's no longer the all-consuming, persevere-til-5-in-the-morning type of affair that it might have been in earlier times. Then again, as suggested above, Kirk could be very much in the back seat on this one, or else just talking nonsense as he does. But still, "trying to be a band"... awesome.

Maybe Kirk is telling the truth about the progress (or lack thereof) on the new album. It sounds to me (no finished songs/Fidelman is the producer/don't hold your breath or get your hopes up) that they are still at the early stages of putting the record together. I know that's not what you guys want to hear but they have more money than sense now and want to spend more time with their families. They basically want to chill these days...

Lightning Master - who dat in your profile avi? Her name is Frida. It's the cover art for the Swedish band Kent's album Hagnesta Hill from 1999: They're one of my favorite bands and have been for about 16 years now, and this past sunday they announced that they will split unfortunately (after releasing their fortcoming album and doing one last tour). : ( Hagnesta Hill is probably my favorite album by them so I picked the avatar as a kind of homage to them.

Then again, as suggested above, Kirk could be very much in the back seat on this one, or else just talking nonsense as he does. But still, "trying to be a band"... awesome. Exactly. The family excuse is getting old at this point. They spend plenty of time every year going out and doing gigs, if they really are so caught up in other things why not just admit they only want to tour and get rid of the elephant in the room. Id rather hear them say that than talk about how hard it is to find the time to make a fucking album. The way they speak about things is so damn over complicated and frustrating. Part of me wonders if any of them actually knows what's going on. If they are just trolling us it's even more stupid. Its a damn album, just tell us about it without all the trivial shit.
