Come on guys, LOS isn't that bad. I listened to it the other day, considering its a demo, and was thrown together for that tour, its decent. Needs some work and better lyrics but its still better then a bunch of other Metallica songs. Agreed!

It needs a massive overhaul to be album worthy.
Death is not the end - All nightmare Long kind of overhaul.

Lords of summer, as a song, as a title, should be a one off song sang at a festival, in the summer , called "the summer festival" that Metallica headlined. Outside of that situation it sucks more than anything that has ever sucked before.

They must really be struggling if Lords Of Summer is a genuine album contender without some serious overhaul.

Honestly, I really like Lords of Summer. I don't like the title though.
I think the lyrics could be worked on a bit more; but for an 8 minute song written by CURRENT Metallica, I think it sounds organic and flows really well!

There's an interview (probably held in Dec or Jan) with Lars in the new German Rock Hard magazine. Nice read... A few tidbits (but nothing too exciting or new): no short songs (very vague here, though) still not decided if LOS will make the album they record more songs than just for the album 2016 release looks very good from AJFA on studio outtakes, similar to the Zepplin re-releases, exist Presidio stuff will most likely be part of SA re-release they were a little disappointed that there were not more obscure choices at the Request-shows...will probably do something similar again in smaller venues Full Arsenal stage will be used again in the future ^ Quote from the Metallica Forum. Okay. No short songs - FUCK THAT. Still not decided on LOS - FUCK THAT SONG. More songs than just for the album - JUST RELEASE AN ALBUM'S WORTH OF SONGS. 2016 release looks good -I'll believe it when I see it, but okay. Outtakes from earlier albums - very interesting! Presidio stuff on SA re-release - great! New request songs in smaller venues - great! (Although that won't be happening in Finland... :/) Full Arsenal stage - what's that? Don't really care about which stage they use, though. All in all, the most interesting news is about the old unreleased stuff.

More precise quote about the short songs:
When Lars said that the new stuff is a continuation of DM they asked "Are the songs as long as on DM?" and he replies "Let me put it this way: none of them is short. There are no 3-minute-songs."
This does not mean that there are only 8 minute tracks.
About LOS: I really don't think they'll include it. Maybe he just said 'I don't know if it will make the album' in order to not give away any precise info about the record.

It would be interesting to hear Metallica do a punchy 2 minute song.

It would be interesting to hear Metallica do a punchy 2 minute song. I'd pay big money for a ten song, 30 minute album. Much more interesting than 10 song, 80 minute album.

A song should last as long as it needs to. LOS needs that last half time bit cut, that's a good example, trimming off a minute or two of The Day that Never Comes would be too abrupt, it works the way it is and it doesn't feel long. If a song is great, 20 minutes can go by and you don't even realize it. Is Puppets to long? How about Dissposable Heros? Orion? Those songs work and they are quite long. Death Magnetic is a great album, I don't feel it drags at all with BBS being the exception and even that one takes you somewhere else when it starts to feel like it should. Song length should be organic, not predetermined.

I love it when we post evidence for Metallica recording and the "late 2018" crowd just "don't believe them" and are adamant they're still writing demoes based on zero evidence.

Because some people seem to be either a) Incredibly lazy b) Deliberately trolling Anyway. Here's proof they are recording. No press speculation, this is direct from the band themselves. A post from May on Metallica.com stating " here is proof positive that the band has BEGUN THE PROCESS of making a new long-playing collection of music, which we will henceforth refer to as “an album.” Of course, the truth is that this process started some while back, the band having been recording bits of riffery and rhyme for a few years, with the sifting process having taken place for the last year or so. Which has brought us to this. Actual stuff being recorded, arranged and committed to some sort of cohesive aural record "An image of the band sitting down recording with Greg Fidelman and recording the new album One of James Hetfield's top 10 things for the year was "Getting the best guitar sound yet recording the new album at HQ" October's Lars babble direct from HQ shows James recording guitar on a new track with Greg Fidelman with Lars continually saying they are 'recording'. And most recently James playing a snippet of what very much seems to be a multitracked recording of one of their new songs. February 25 2016 : Instagram pic : Lets hope they have finished some of the demoes by now.
