So I've got another couple of tracks up on YouTube. Fairly different - one more chilled out and one a bit darker. What I'm really struggling with though is what genre/s this music in making fits into. A lot of it is driven by synths, and a lot of the synth sounds I create are intentionally retro. At the same time I'm using lots of 'real' instrumentation and there's nothing especially synthwave/vaporwave/whateverthefuckwave about it. In order to get my music to the right communities and get any kind of exposure I need to figure out what it sounds like. Does anyone have any ideas as to where it might fit? EDIT: I guess really it's some kind of proggy synth-based rock

Some awesome tunes you got going. Here is my opinion on a few things. I hope it helps you.
Since your music is instrumental, I think you could have success in the game and film industry if you went that route and aren't looking for fame but want to get your name out there. There are thousands of indy projects out there looking for cheap or free license to good quality music, which is what you have, and you just never know what project might take off and be the next big thing.
I would gladly give my music to a student or Indy film or game temporarily for free On the condition that if it reached the next level of exposure and interest, like over 10,000 downloads, or film festival exposure etc, I would receive royalties. Up until that point, just having your name attached to a bunch of these kind of projects looks great for you, and builds your work load, which than can justify you asking for royalties from future projects. It's all about word of mouth in that field, and if people like your stuff, they will come back for more and recommend you to others.
Altitude City:
Very chill. It made my brain wander in all kinds of directions. I really like it when it kicks off around the 4 minute mark. This track would work amazingly well in a puzzle solving or detective type game application. Also great as studying background music since it lets your mind take in and process ideas.
Becoming the Heliogiant:
Dark and mysterious. This would work well in a sci-fi game or movie (even some horror), and also as the intro theme for the opening of a film or show. Long and epic, with enough variety to keep things interesting, but also if someone used it in their project, they could slice it up and use it in many places without being repetitive.

Hey thanks man! I appreciate that a lot. I never really thought of this kind of stuff being used for a specific application like gaming. I'm not sure why, it's a great idea. Definitely something I'm going to explore. Thanks for taking the time to give some detailed feedback and some advice!
