I like the idea that we're just too stupid to even acknowledge that there are intelligent forms of life near us, let alone comunicate, have a conversation or even interact with them. They could be whatever, maybe even non carbon based life forms, and people go atributting human characteristics like sending messages, having an anthropomorphic look, abducting us to study an shit, those are all human traits and interests. Would they be here studying us for so long? given that they're smart enough to travel light years across galaxies finding probably civilizations a lot more intereting and complex than us, they could figure us out easily, humans are amazing and complex tu ourselves, but in the grand scheme of the universe it's more likely that we're not.
It's fun to think about all the possibilities and why sci-fi is so fun and all, but as for the real world, let's just go step by step, advancing in science and try not to make conclusions based on witnesses and shit since human perception is not something we can rely on to explain the universe.

PSA Don't look at the sun today....not even for one second. Your eyes will be dialated, the sky so dark you can see the stars....but unless it's a total eclipse, the amount of light hitting your eyes is the same as any other day and you will go blind.

It's slightly cloudy here today, which if done right, I'll actually be able to look at the eclipse directly, like the last partial that happened here when I was a kid.
I remember that last time, when it hit peak, I think that was late 80s or early 90s, I said 'I wish it would stay like this forever!'

Went outside to see the partial at peak minute. A thin passing cloud allowed me to look directly for a moment. Not as cool as the partial I remember as a kid. Also fuck this Texas humidity anyway. There will be a total here in 2024.

Outside of superclusters, galaxies, and the like--are supermassive black holes the largest single objects in the universe in terms of mass and the radius of the event horizon?
And if the largest known supermassive black hole is a quasar thought to be ~40b solar masses based on light from 12 billion light years away, is it safe to assume that it is significantly larger at present, and may not still be an active quasar?

I believe he's fucked in the head:
"In 2000, he was asked to step down from his position as director (though he remains a professor) when he began to promote theories that were outside his actual realm of expertise, specifically related to non-mainstream beliefs in the areas of astronomy and physics: he maintains that satellite measurements of the cosmic microwave background radiation, believed by most astronomers to be an afterglow of the Big Bang, are actually observations of a glow from Earth's oceans."

Who knows, today's fool could end up being tomorrow's genius. What do you think about the electric universe theory? The big bang still makes no sense to me. The whole cycle of inflation and deflation kind of has a lot of holes in it. Every bit of matter condensed into one single point..sure,OK. Also the universe is expanding and keeps expanding faster. Does not compute. Maybe our reality was the result of another reality collapsing into an inter dimensional portal. Who knows? What really bugs me though is knowing that in our lifetime, we will most likely never get the real answers.

Well, the whole idea that the universe is expanding at all gives the whole 'big bang' theory credence. You can't expand from something unless you were at one point closer to it and the fact that everything is expanding away from everything else implies that at one time, everything was much closer. Also, with conventional physics as we know it today, nothing about the universe makes sense. Super clusters shouldn't exist, galaxies shouldn't be spiraled the way they are and the universe shouldn't be expanding at an ever faster rate but rather slowing down and eventually deflating back into another big bang. The only thing that can account for all these inconsistencies is 'dark matter'....something that is inconceivable to us atm because it can neither be seen, felt or measured. Figuring out what dark matter is is the next big question...the answer to which might catapult us to the next age.

I also saw something on some science documentary about how at one point the universe expansion was slowing down and then for whatever reason, it started speeding up. I guess that would infer that maybe dark matter didn't originate from the big bang or maybe dark matter has no effect on regular matter until it reaches a certain size?

You can wear all the tinfoil on your head that you want, but that won't change the fact they all of the current evidence is pointing towards the universe expanding infinitely until it freezes to death or tears itself apart.

Black hole models contradicted by hands-on tests at Sandia’s Z machine “Our research suggests it will be necessary to rework many scientific papers published over the last 20 years,” Loisel said. “Our results challenge models used to infer how fast black holes swallow matter from their companion star. We are optimistic that astrophysicists will implement whatever changes are found to be needed.” share-ng.sandia.gov/news/resources/news_releases/black_hole/#.WaWPnd8pAwh
