I've been working on my own music for some time now. I've had no formal training in mixing or sound design or anything like that, so it's been a big learning curve. I've got nearly an hours worth of material at various stages of completion. This one is nearly done and I thought I would share it and try to get some constructive feedback. I'm not done mixing it yet, but part of the reason for sharing is to get others input on how the mix is balanced. Is something too loud, not loud enough, too peaky, etc? I've only got limited sources to check the mix on, and only one that I know very well. Nor do I have studio monitors, just good headphones.
So this is The Great Equilibrium. The guitar solo needs to be redone, and the bass definitely needs some work, but other than that and tightening up the mix it's just about done. It's meant to be a bit off-kilter and syncopated without sounding too techy. It's not metal but you can hear a metal influence. I don't really know what it is. Maybe Jaga Jazzist meets instrumental retro synth rock.
